DBM Releases P6.2 Billion for Targeted Cash Aid

BUTUAN CITY -- A total of P6.20 billion has been released by the Department of Budget and Management (DBM) to cover the first tranche of the Targeted Cash Transfer (TCT) Program of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD). 

The cash subsidy will be distributed to six (6) million beneficiaries from the poorest 50 percent of the country’s population to help them cope with rising prices of fuel and other commodities. Specifically, this includes four (4) million households enrolled under the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps) and two (2) million social pension beneficiaries.

The beneficiaries shall receive P500 monthly cash subsidies for six (6) months to be distributed in three (3) tranches. This implies they are expected to receive P1000 for the first tranche, which will be distributed through the cash cards issued by the LandBank of the Philippines or other approved modes of distribution. 

The implementing guidelines of the TCT program are issued under DOF-DSWD-DBM-NEDA Joint Memorandum Circular No. 1, s. 2022. 

The DBM will ensure the timely and prudent release of funds and work closely with all implementing agencies to help ease the burden of the vulnerable population most affected by global crises. (DBM/PIA Caraga)

5.7M Kantidad sa mga Makinarya sa Pagpanguma Giturn-over sa DA-Caraga sa Grupo sa mga Mag-uuma

Sumala ni Director Delos Reyes, ang maong interbensyon maoy sanong sa DA aron nga mahatagan og kasulbaran ang mga hagit nga giatubang sa industriya sa mais ug cassava dinhi sa rehiyon ug sa tibuok nasud sa pilipinas.

Gidasig sa maong director ang mga asosayon nga padayung muuswag ug dili mohunong sa pagpananom.

PCOL DENNIS SERUNO is the new Dinagat Islands Police Provincial Office Director 

SAN JOSE, Dinagat Islands --- Police Regional Office 13 Regional Director Police Brigadier General Romeo M. Caramat, Jr announced that Police Colonel Dennis A. Seruno, the Chief of Regional Personnel and Records Management Division,  took the post as the incoming Provincial Director of Dinagat Islands Police Provincial Office (PPO). 

Police Col. Seruno succeeded the seat of Police Colonel Frankie C. Candelario, the outgoing Provincial Director of Dinagat Islands Provincial Police Office, effective June 28, 2022. 

The outgoing Provincial Director of Dinagat Islands PPO, Colonel Candelario will be reassigned to the regional headquarter.

The Deputy Regional Director for Administration, Police Colonel Roderick D. Minong  together with the Regional Staff and other Police Commissioned Officers and Police Non-Commissioned Officers, attended the turned over of the command ceremony at the PRO-13 Conference Room, Camp Col Rafael C. Rodriguez, Butuan City. 

"The leaders may change, but the PNP Caraga's mandate, campaigns, plans, and programs for Dinagat Islands PPO will remain the same. TOFWA receives P150K additional aid from OWWA

BISLIG CITY, Surigao del Sur -- Part of the continued livelihood intervention of the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) to Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) Family Circles (OFCs) under the Tulong Pangkabuhayan sa Pag-unlad ng Samahang OFWs (Tulong-PUSO), the Regional Welfare Office-Caraga awarded the last tranche of livelihood assistance in the amount of Php150,000.00 to Tabon Overseas Filipino Workers Association (TOFWA) recently in Barangay Tabon, Bislig City, Surigao del Sur.

The amount of the third tranche is equivalent to 30% of the Php500,000.00 total amount of assistance granted to the said organization for its egg production livelihood project.

During the awarding ceremony, Officer-in-Charge Ma. Ireen Cambaling lauded the efforts of the organization in the establishment of the planned livelihood project which is now a reality with the completion of the building for the ready-to-lay chickens.

“Sana po ang dagdag na tulong pinansiyal na inyong natanggap ngayon ay mabuo na ang kinakailangan ninyong puhunan para sa inyong nasimulang proyekto upang sa gayon magkaroon ng pagkakitaan ang inyong organisasyon at gayun din ang inyong pamilya,” bared Cambaling.

Also present during the awarding ceremony are representatives from the Local Government Officials of Bislig City, Dr. Bong Barios of the City Veterinary’s Office, and Mr. Miguel Caber from the City Mayor’s Office.

Likewise, TOFWA President Celestino Mundas expressed gratitude to OWWA for the livelihood grant the organization has received through the Tulong-PUSO program as well as to LGU-Bislig City for the technical assistance provided to them.

“We are hopeful that we can sustain this project in the coming years,” added Mundas.

Mundas further shared that they are planning to have the ceremonial blessing of the building in the coming weeks in time when the  Ready To Lay Eggs chickens and feeds will be delivered this weekend.

Newly-elected LCE in Sibagat town accepts responsibilities

BUTUAN CITY -- Outgoing Municipal Mayor Maria Liza L. Evangelista has turned over her responsibilities, pertinent records, and documents signifying the concrete plans for the succeeding years to the newly proclaimed Local Chief Executive (LCE), Dr. Thelma G. Lamanilao. 

Outgoing LCE Evangelista formally handed over the symbolic key of responsibility, as well as the books to Mayor Lamanilao, which took place recently at the Municipal Hall Lobby of Sibagat, Agusan del Sur. 

“Ako muingon kaninyo. Please support our new local chief executive. Hinaut pa unta dili kita mawala in terms of implementing the projects, programs, activities laid down in our Comprehensive Development Plan,” said outgoing Mayor Evangelista in her message.

AgSur IP leaders witness 2022 SOPA, oath-taking ceremony of newly-elected officials

BUTUAN CITY – The Agusan del Sur Indigenous Peoples (IP) Leaders attended the 2022 State of Provincial Address (SOPA) of Governor Santiago Cane, Jr. and Oath-Taking Ceremony of Newly-Elected Officials in the Province of Agusan del Sur during the 7th Special Session of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan on June 17, 2022 at the Covered Court, Sports Complex, Governor D.O. Plaza Government Center, Prosperidad, Agusan del Sur.

The newly elected officials took their oath before the newly appointed judges of the Regional Trial Court Branch 6, 7, and 55.

Regional Director Ordonio Rocero, Jr., Acting Provincial Officer of Agusan del Sur Atty. Leslie Plaza, and Regional Legal Officer Atty. Fritzie Lynne Sumando also showed support to the momentous activity, all natives of Loreto, Talacogon, and Prosperidad, Agusan del Sur, respectively. 

Governor Cane declared that six percent of the population was lifted above poverty line. There was tremendous appreciation of the frontliners for the quality healthcare services provided to them during the pandemic. A molecular laboratory was established and added as testing center in Caraga. 

Moreover, there was emphasis on Build, Build, Build (BBB) program bringing services through road development, harnessing potentials in agriculture, reducing poverty through employment and enterprise development, and promoting tourism growth. 

More importantly, the Province of Agusan del Sur committed to helping the Indigenous Cultural Communities/ Indigenous Peoples (ICCs/IPs) and ensuring that Free and Prior Informed Consent (FPIC) are obtained for projects, programs, and activities within the ancestral domains. 

The said province is home to 13 approved Certificate of Ancestral Domain Titles (CADTs), one of which is the largest in terms of area in the whole Caraga Region. There are six ongoing CADT applications, three CADTiable with application and four CADTiable without application, a total of 26 ancestral domains.

Kawanggawa ng PNP at Media para sa mga residente sa malayong barangay sa Agusan del Sur, patuloy

LUNGSOD NG BUTUAN -- Mahirap man ang kalagayan ng mga residente lalo na ng nasa malalayong barangay dahil sa coronavirus disease-2019 (COVID-19) pandemic, hindi pa rin sila nawawalan ng pag-asa dahil hanggang sa ngayon ay patuloy pa rin ang pagpapa-abot ng tulong ng gobyerno kasama ng iba pang sektor sa kani-kanilang lugar. 

Isa na dito ang Barangay Sabang Gibong sa Talacogon, Agusan del Sur kung saan kailangan pang lakbayin sa pamamagitan ng bangka ang nasabing lugar. 

Hindi nagdalawang isip ang kawani ng Philippine National Police (PNP) sa Agusan del Sur kasama ang Agusan Media Club sa pagbigay ng relief assistance at nagsagawa ng Community Outreach Program para sa mga residente doon. 

Dahil dito, laking tuwa ni punong barangay na si Felifa Goloran, dahil sa regalong hatid ng PNP at Agusan Media Club sa kanilang mga residente. Tumanggap sila ng food packs, nutri-bun at chocolates naman para sa mga bata. 

Ang Barangay Sabang Gibong ay madalas nakararanas ng pagbaha kaya nawawalan rin ng kuryente. 

"Maraming salamat sa tulong na ipinagkaloob ng Agusan del Sur Police Provincial Office dito sa aming lugar. Sana ay magpatuloy po ang inyong pagbigay tulong sa amin," ani ni Goloran.

4ID installs 2 new Battalion Commanders in Caraga Region

CAMP EVANGELISTA, Cagayan de Oro City -- The 4th Infantry (Diamond) Division has installed two (2) new Battalion Commanders in Caraga Region in a series of Change of Command Ceremonies presided by Major General Wilbur C Mamawag, the 4ID Commander.

On Friday, June 17, 2022, Lieutenant Colonel (LTC) Jerold H Jale, a member of Philippine Military Academy (PMA) Class 2001, took over Command of the 30th Infantry (Fight On) Battalion, replacing LTC Ryan Charles G Callanta.  Meanwhile, on Monday, June 21, 2022, LTC Sandy R. Majarocon, a member of PMA Class of 2000, took over 26th Infantry "Ever Onward" Battalion replacing LTC Reynald Romel A Goce. Both events took place at its Headquarters in Gigaquit, Surigao del Norte and Talacogon, Agusan del Sur respectively.

 

The relinquishment of LTC Callanta and LTC Goce is part of the subject officers’ career advancement. Both have successfully served as Battalion Commanders for more than two years. Their leadership skills have been proven and tested so they are now ready to take on positions of higher responsibility.

 

MGen Mamawag expressed his gratitude to LTC Callanta and LTC Goce for their invaluable contributions for the success of the government’s anti-insurgency campaign. “In behalf of Team Diamond, I cannot thank you enough for your leadership, hard work and sacrifices,” MGen Mamawag stated. 

 

Likewise, MGen Mamawag congratulated the newly installed Commanders and challenged them to do their best and surpass the performance of their predecessors. “I look forward to hearing success stories under your watch.  As you begin your term, I want you to master your Area of Operations, and be innovative and creative not only to sustain the gains of the campaign but more importantly in order to contribute to  peace, stability and socio-economic development of CARAGA Region,” added MGen Mamawag. NANIE Special Economic Zone sa Agusan del Norte, sisimulan nang e-develop sa tulong ng PEZA

LUNGSOD NG BUTUAN -- Maisasakatuparan na ang mahigit dalawampung taong hinihintay ng mga Agusanons, dahil sisimulan na ang  pag-develop ng Nasipit Agusan del Norte Industrial Estate o NANIE, ang 62-hectare special economic zone sa lungsod ng Nasipit, Agusan del Norte.

Sa ginawang signing of the deed of grant of usufructuary right, hinikayat ni Philippine Economic Zone Authority o PEZA director general BGen. Charito B. Plaza ang mga residente na magkaisa upang makaingganyo ng maraming investors.

Ayon kay BGen Plaza, malaking tulong kasi ang mga ito upang mas lalo pang umunlad ang ekonomiya sa probinsya. “Dahil sa inyong pagkakaisa, umaasa kami sa PEZA na magtulungan tayo para mapadali ang mga locators,” tugon ni Plaza.

Nananawagan din si BGen Plaza sa mga local government units na mag-identify  ng kani-kanilang potential economic zones pero hwag kalimutang  protektahan ang ating kalikasan. “Ang aking adbokasiya ay ating imbitahin ang lahat ng local government unit, because every LGU has a potential economic zone,” dagdag ni BGen Plaza

Ayon kay vice governor Ramon A.G. Bungabong, upang mas maisulong pa ang development ng NANIE, nagpasa ng mga resolusyon ang Sangguniang Panlalawigan ng Agusan del Norte, at sa tulong na din ng mga line agencies, local government units at ang PEZA na maipagpatuloy na maisakatuparan ang mga ito. “We have passed several resolutions to boost the NANIE program. The latest of which is sanggunian resolution no. 515-2021,” tugon ni Bungabong.

Hinikayat din ni Nasipit mayor Enrico Corvera na magtulungan upang maging progresibo ang Nasipit at ang probinsya ng Agusan del Norte.

DTI showcases SurSur products at National Trade Fair

TANDAG CITY, Surigao del Sur -- The Department of Trade and Industry-Surigao del Sur (DTI-SDS) Provincial Office headed by Provincial Director Romel Oribe 0 joins the National Trade Fair dubbed as As “Midyear Mega Bagsakan: Supporting Filipino Products” from  June 29 to July 3, 2022 at the Megatrade Halls 1-2, 5th level Mega B, SM Megamall, Mandaluyong City.


The DTI-SDS announced that the province of Surigao del Sur showcased the tuna products of Mangagoy Farmers Fisherfolks and Community Multi-Purpose Cooperative and Nito Handicraft of barangay Villaverde Coffee Growers Cooperative, in the 5-day National Trade Fair.

The DTI’s Midyear Mega Bagsakan supports over  200 Filipino Micro, Small and Medium Enterprise  (MSME) owners who are selling their products such as food, textile, furniture, health supplement, fashion items, and more, with a message, "Get the best local products directly from the manufacturers."

ASSCAT Reserve Officer Training Corps Unit now officially activated 

PROSPERIDAD, AGUSAN DEL SUR - The Agusan del Sur College of Agriculture and Technology – Reserve Officer Training Corps (ASSCAT ROTC) Unit in San Teodoro, Bunawan, Agusan del Sur which was formerly affiliated to Philippine Normal University Reserve Officer Training Corps Unit (PNU ROTCU) in Prosperidad, Agusan del Sur is now officially activated following the Activation Ceremony held on 28 June 2022.

This was facilitated by the 1502nd Community Defense Center (CDC), 15th Regional Community Defense Group (15RCDG), Reserve Command (RESCOM), Philippine Army, pursuant to General Orders Number 669 dated 21 April 2022 from General Headquarters Armed Forces of the Philippines.

 

Colonel Diosdado E Peji, Group Commander of 15RCDG was the Guest of Honor and Speaker during the said Ceremony. In his message, he congratulated the College President, Dr. Joy Capistrano, who also graced the said event for the achievement. Colonel Peji also emphasized the importance of ROTC in molding the youth to become productive citizens. 

 

Dr. Capistrano expressed her gratitude and excitement for the activation of the ROTC Unit in the school which they waited for a long time. 

 

Meanwhile, Major Jerome G Waclin, Director of 1502 CDC and concurrent Commandant of the said newly activated ROTC Unit also expressed his gratitude to Major Marlon L Bagara, the former 1502 CDC Director and Commandant of ASSCAT ROTCU who exerted effort for the issuance of Activation Order of the said ROTC Unit.

Caraganon stakeholders to join 48th Nutrition Month activities

BUTUAN CITY – The different stakeholders in Caraga region will be participating in the activities set for this year’s 48th Nutrition Month Regional Launching on July 4, 2022 at SM City Butuan. 

According to Dr. NiΓ±o Archie Labordo, officer-in-charge/ Regional Nutrition Program Coordinator of National Nutrition Council (NNC) Caraga, reiterated that the Nutrition Month is an annual campaign held every July to create greater awareness among Filipinos on the importance of nutrition as provided under Presidential Decree 491, or the Nutrition Act of the Philippines. “The law also mandates the National Nutrition Council to lead and coordinate the nationwide campaign,” he said.

 

“The campaign calls for a collective effort to improve nutrition as we move forward to a better new normal. The campaign aims to: 1) raise the awareness of the importance of nutrition in building resilience and recovery from the pandemic; 2) stimulate discussions among stakeholders of nutrition in building resilience and recovery from the pandemic; and 3) engage various sectors and the public in activities that promote nutrition,” bared Labordo.

 

Dr. Labordo added that the regional launching will start with a motorcade within the city thoroughfares at 8:30 a.m. After which, a short program will follow at SM City Butuan, and the press conference.

 

During the program, Dr. Cesar Cassion, chairperson of Regional Nutrition Committee and regional director of the Department of Health (DOH) Caraga will deliver his welcome message. 

 

The unveiling of Nutrition Month logo and ribbon-cutting will also be led by the following: Dr. Cassion of DOH; Director Lilibeth Famacion of the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG); Director Ricardo OΓ±ate of the Department of Agriculture (DA); Dr. Labordo of NNC; and Ms. Kristine Joy Baritua of SM City Butuan.

 

Among other officials, newly-elect Governor Angelica Rosedell Amante-Matba of Agusan del Norte will deliver her message of support during the event. Participating sectors will also join in the pledge of commitment while Dr. Cassion will lead the oath-taking ceremony of the Caraga MOVERS officers.

 

This year’s celebration is anchored on the theme “New normal na nutrisyon, sama-samang gawan ng solusyon!” The theme calls for strengthened nutrition interventions and solidarity towards nutrition improvement as the country shifts towards living with the COVID-19 virus. Establishment of NANIE special economic zone in AgNor now underway

During the signing of the deed of grant of usufructuary right, Brigadier General Charito B. Plaza, Director-General of the Philippine Economic Zone Authority (PEZA) urged the Agusanons to unite and support this project.

 

She emphasized that this is a big opportunity to improve the economy of the province.

 

“With your support and cooperation, we, in PEZA hope to easily locate these economic zones,” said Plaza.

 

BGen. Plaza also urged local government units to identify their respective potential economic zones while ensuring their share in protecting the natural resources.

 

“Every local government unit has a potential economic zone that’s why we also encouraged them to take part in this endeavor,” added Plaza.

 

Meanwhile, Vice Governor Ramon A.G. Bungabong, stressed that  the Sanggguniang Panlalawigan of Agusan del Norte was able to pass several resolutions with the support of the line agencies and local government units and PEZA in its aim to develop NANIE.

 

“We have passed several resolutions to boost the NANIE program. The latest of which is Sanggunian Resolution No. 515-2021,” bared Bungabong.

Bislig City & Madrid receive livelihood grants from DOLE

BISLIG CITY, Surigao del Sur -- The Department of Labor and Employment- Surigao del Sur Field Office (DOLE-SDS FO) awarded livelihood assistance amounting to P2.9 Million to the Municipality of Madrid and City of Bislig all in Surigao del Sur province.


Two associations of landless farmers in the municipality of Madrid received assistance with a total amount of P1,992,768.00 on May 26, 2022: Songkit Farmers Association at P995,768.00, and Linibunan Irrigators Farmers Association at P997,000.00.

The department also facilitated the release of livelihood assistance to BTRP TODA Three-wheel Drivers in Bislig City for the project BTRP Toda Spare Parts and General Repair Shop. On June 01, 2022, the association received a livelihood grant amounting to P966,272.00 through LGU Bislig as the Accredited Co-partner. 

In his message, Association President Crispen A. Ending expressed his gratitude to DOLE and his commitment to maintain the project along with the members of the association. “Mapasalamaton kami sa DOLE sa hinabang para sa amo mga driver, ug sa suporta sa among Mayor ug sa tanan nag tabang sa amo sa kining project nga mahitigayon kami. Ang amo kalipay kuman dili masukod, (We are grateful to DOLE for the help to us-as drivers, the support of our mayor and everyone who help in the realization of this Project. Our joy is beyond measure),” Mr. Ending said in a local vernacular.

On the same day, Ms. Lucena Garay, a beneficiary of the DOLE Bikecination program received tools and materials amounting to P24,992.50. Ms. Garay’s skills in cooking will now be complemented with materials to pursue her Kakanin Food Business.

DOLE SDSFO Head Genebelle B. Bal thanked the beneficiaries for their trust in the department’s services. “We are grateful to our beneficiaries for placing their trust in DOLE and for being patient as DOLE continues to deliver its services to the workers in the province. Your patience is not wasted as of  today you are witnessing the awarding of livelihood projects. We hope that you will  attain success in your undertakings,” Chief Bal said.

Kabahin niini, si Alexander A. Makinano, ang Regional Director sa POPCOM Caraga, nagpasabot sa PDC Full Council meeting sa Provincial Training Center, Butuan City nga ang hiniusang paningkamot gikan sa nagkadaiyang sector sa katilingban aron mapugngan ang pagtaas sa mga kaso sa pagmabdos sa mga kabatan-onan. 

Ang konsiho nga gipangulohan ni Governor Dale B. Corvera nag-awhag sa 10 ka munisipyo sa Agusan del Norte ug siyudad sa Cabadbaran nga magpasa ug komprehensibo nga plano sa aksyon para sa pagpugong sa pagmabdos sa mga batan-on sa POPCOM Caraga agig pagsanong sa Executive Order 141.

Surigao State College of Technology converted into a university

SURIGAO CITY, Surigao del Norte -- The Surigao State College of Technology (SSCT), is now Surigao del Norte State University (SNSU).

Surigao del Norte State University (SNSU), the first and only state university in the province of Surigao del Norte  traces its beginning as the Surigao del Norte School of Arts and Trades (SNSAT) in 1969 by virtue of the R.A. 6057, converted into Surigao State College of Technology in 1998 through the passage of R.A. 8650 merging Surigao del Norte School of Arts and Trades (SNSAT) and Malimono School of Fisheries until it was converted to Surigao del Norte State University (SNSU) through RA 10600 integrating the Surigao State College of Technology, Siargao National College of Science and Technology, and the Surigao del Norte College of Agriculture and Technology in June 4, 2013 which was signed by former President Benigno S. Aquino III. 

The R.A. 10600 was amended under R.A. 11010 enacted into law by President Rodrigo R. Duterte on March 27, 2018.Thereafter, the administration, faculty and staff are conscientiously working at level best to comply the university requirements set by CHED. 

Top on the list of the operational requirements for its conversion is the Level III accreditation or its equivalent under CHED policies for at least four (4) of its undergraduate programs and two (2) of its graduate programs. Other requirements include ratio of qualified full-time faculty with requisite degrees to number of students, adequate library and laboratories, research and development output of practical and commercial application to the community, relevant linkages and outreach programs that are of service to the community, as well as relevant academic policies, systems and processes.

On September 29-October 1, 2021, the CHED– Office of Institutional Quality Assurance and Governance (OIQAG) conducted the National Validation with its Composite team and Regional Quality Assessment Team (RQAT) members from the different higher institutions in the Philippines. After the national validation, SSCT continuously works with other requirements in order to be fully compliant.

Upon complying all the requirements of a university as prescribed by the Commission on Higher Education (CHED), the Commission En Banc approved the full conversion of Surigao State College of Technology into SURIGAO DEL NORTE STATE UNIVERSITY (SNSU).

Finally, after nine (9) long years of hard work and labor, the life-long dream of the administration, faculty, staff, students and the people of Surigao del Norte becomes a reality.

The SNSU community extends its sincerest appreciation to all the significant dignitaries who are instrumental in the conversion. The then Representatives, Francisco T. Matugas and Guillermo A. Romarate who authored HB 1718 which was enacted into law known as R.A. 10600. Representatives Francisco Jose F. Matugas II, Robert Ace S. Barbers and Ann K. Hofer who introduced HB 5150 and Sen. Chiz Escudero who sponsored such Bill which introduced some amendments to R.A. 10600. The same was signed into law known as R.A 11010 amending R.A.10600.

The administration expresses its heartfelt gratitude to CHED Chair J. Prospero E. De Vera III, the former Commissioner Perfecto A. Alibin and Commissioner Jo Mark M. Libre who steered the university towards this important milestone. Further, the academic community is extending its appreciation to the SSCT-Board of Trustees and to Cong. Mark O. Go, Chair of the House Committee on Higher and Technical Education (CHTE) and CHEDRO-13 for their unwavering support to this worthy undertaking. 

“The road to university-hood is not easy, it requires clear vision and unity of its players. With the collaborative effort of the entire academic community and stakeholders, the vision of becoming the first state university in Surigao del Norte and the dream of bringing quality education to the doorstep of every surigaonon are now certain. The commitment and passion of the faculty members, staff and students are the driving force towards the realization of the conversion. Forward looking, SNSU dreams again of producing entrepreneurial graduates who can help and contribute to the progress of Surigao del Norte and to the country. All of these will contribute for our nation’s greater heights.” said Dr. Gregorio Z. Gamboa, Jr.

Around 300 OFWs, dependents celebrate Migrant Workers Day with OWWA Caraga

BUTUAN CITY -- With the theme, “Kabayan, Sa Galing at Sakripisyo Mo, Nakabangon Ang Mundo,” the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration Regional Welfare Office (OWWA-RWO) Caraga recently commemorated the 27th Migrant Workers Day dubbed as “Araw ng Pasasalamat” at Robinsons Place Butuan.

Around 300 participants consisting of Overseas filipino Workers (OFWs) - vacationing and returnees, including their families joined in the said celebration which aimed to recognize the valuable contributions of the modern-day heroes, the Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) to the country’s economy. It is also a way of celebrating the signing into law of Republic Act 8042 or the Migrant Workers Act of 1995. RA 8042 establishes promotion of overseas employment as a policy while it holds the government responsible for the protection of OFWs. 

In his opening remarks, Officer-in-Charge Rodel P. Deligero conveyed the message of the OWWA Administrator Atty. Hans Leo J. Cacdac who expressed the importance of the Migrant Workers Day (MWD) Celebration to recognize the heroism and sacrifices of our beloved OFWs especially during the time of COVID-19 pandemic. 

“Kasagsagan ng pandemya may dalawang taon na ang nakalipas, kinilala ang kontribusyon ng ating mga OFW frontliners sa iba’t-ibang panig ng mundo. Sa kabila ng banta ng COVID-19 virus ay buong tapang nilang hinarap ang pandemya magampanan lamang ang kanilang sinumpaang tungkulin,” Administrator Cacdac said.

Administrator Cacdac also bared that the continued patronage of other countries to the OFWs’ skills and competence depicted that OFWs have great contribution in the continuous circulation of the world. 

“Sa lahat po ng ating mga mahal na OFW, ako po ay taos-pusong nagpapasalamat sa inyo sa pagkakataong ibinigay ninyo sa akin at sa buong OWWA na kayo ay aming mapaglingkuran sa mga oras na pinaka-kailangan ninyo ang aming serbisyo,” Administrator Cacdac added.

Adminsitrator Cacdac also said that during the pandemic over 1,200,000 OFWs were served by OWWA through the provision of food, hotel accommodation and transportation onward to their respective home provinces. At the same time, OWWA also strengthened the implementation of its education assistance for OFW dependents with over 75,416 beneficiaries of the agency’s different scholarship programs. 

In his message, Assistant Regional Director Raymond Fel Sajor of DOLE-Caraga also lauded the sacrifices of OFWs to provide the needs of their families. Further, he said that OFWs are in demand because of their world class quality of work and easy to adopt attitude despite language and culture barriers.

One of the Highlights during the Migrant Workers Day celebration is the awarding of checks under the Balik Pinas Balik Hanapbuhay Program (BPBHP) to ten (10) OFW program beneficiaries. 

Two of the program beneficiaries Luisito Amodia and Rochelle Pink Bernales expressed their gratitude and appreciation to OWWA for providing them assistance to be able to start a livelihood undertaking in their respective communities.

“Kani nga programa (BPBH) sa ilang gihatag nga 20k, dako gyud ni siya nga tabang sa akoa arun makapuhunan pangnegosyo, (I am grateful for this program, the 20k cash assistance given to me, because it will greatly help me have a starting capital for my business)” said Amodia.

“Dako kog pasalamat kay inspite sa mga niaging mga problema naghatag silage (OWWA) open door para sa mga OFWs nga napauli (I am very grateful because in spite of the problems I encountered in the past, OWWA has opened its door for the OFWs who have returned suddenly),” opined Bernales.

The Balik Pinas Balik Hanapbuhay Program is a package of livelihood support intended to provide immediate relief to returning member-OFWs, active or non-active, who were displaced from their jobs due to wars/political conflicts in host countries, or policy reform, controls & changes by the local host govt., or were victims of illegal recruitment and/or human trafficking or other distressful situations.

To make the activity more fun and meaningful, OWWA and other social partners such as Caraga Association of Recruitment Agencies (CARA) and Paramount Life and General Insurance Corporation afforded various home appliances and kabuhayan package to the participants via raffle draw and door prizes. Competitions such as Tiktok Dance Challenge of Overseas Filipino Citizens (OFCs) and OFW Singing Idol 2022 also brought merriment to the participants. OFW Family Circle Buenavista OFWs and Dependents Association won the Tiktok Dance Challenge while OFW Liezl Bacasmas hailed as the 2022 OFW Singing Idol Champion.

Likewise, partner regional line agencies Social Security System (SSS), PhilHealth-Caraga and PAG-IBIG Fund Butuan City presented updates on their programs and services. While Department of Health (DOH) and City Health Office (CHO)-Butuan City conducted simultaneous vaccination drive.

OIC-Programs and Services Division Yolanda H. Fabre expressed her gratitude to OWWA’s active partners both in government and private institutions which contributed to the success of the activity. She also appreciated the efforts of OWWA Caraga employees who exerted effort to realize the activity as well as to the participants for sparing their time to participate in the said event.
