By Jennifer P. Gaitano

BUTUAN CITY – The different stakeholders in Caraga region will be participating in the activities set for this year’s 48th Nutrition Month Regional Launching on July 4, 2022 at SM City Butuan.

According to Dr. NiΓ±o Archie Labordo, officer-in-charge/ Regional Nutrition Program Coordinator of National Nutrition Council (NNC) Caraga, reiterated that the Nutrition Month is an annual campaign held every July to create greater awareness among Filipinos on the importance of nutrition as provided under Presidential Decree 491, or the Nutrition Act of the Philippines. “The law also mandates the National Nutrition Council to lead and coordinate the nationwide campaign,” he said.

“The campaign calls for a collective effort to improve nutrition as we move forward to a better new normal. The campaign aims to: 1) raise the awareness of the importance of nutrition in building resilience and recovery from the pandemic; 2) stimulate discussions among stakeholders of nutrition in building resilience and recovery from the pandemic; and 3) engage various sectors and the public in activities that promote nutrition,” bared Labordo.

Dr. Labordo added that the regional launching will start with a motorcade within the city thoroughfares at 8:30 a.m. After which, a short program will follow at SM City Butuan, and the press conference.

During the program, Dr. Cesar Cassion, chairperson of Regional Nutrition Committee and regional director of the Department of Health (DOH) Caraga will deliver his welcome message.

The unveiling of Nutrition Month logo and ribbon-cutting will also be led by the following: Dr. Cassion of DOH; Director Lilibeth Famacion of the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG); Director Ricardo OΓ±ate of the Department of Agriculture (DA); Dr. Labordo of NNC; and Ms. Kristine Joy Baritua of SM City Butuan.

Among other officials, newly-elect Governor Angelica Rosedell Amante-Matba of Agusan del Norte will deliver her message of support during the event. Participating sectors will also join in the pledge of commitment while Dr. Cassion will lead the oath-taking ceremony of the Caraga MOVERS officers.

This year’s celebration is anchored on the theme “New normal na nutrisyon, sama-samang gawan ng solusyon!” The theme calls for strengthened nutrition interventions and solidarity towards nutrition improvement as the country shifts towards living with the COVID-19 virus. It also signifies the key role of nutrition in building resilience from pandemic to endemic paradigm. (JPG/PIA-Caraga)
