PDL reunites with family after more than six years through Love Drive

By Kelvin Kennt R. Generalo

PROSPERIDAD, Agusan del Sur (PIA)  Tight embraces and tears of joy and intense longing filled the cell as soon as alias ‘Junjun’ prepared to take his first glimpse at his family after more than six years of no contact.

Junjun, a person deprived of liberty (PDL) at the provincial jail under the Provincial Correctional Security and Management Office (PCSMO) Agusan del Sur, was reunited with his loved ones during the Love Drive of the Provincial Public Information Office (PPIO) Agusan del Sur, through the initiative of DXGP 89.7 Agusan Radio, the provincial radio station.

Junjun has been detained for one and a half years at the provincial jail. He expressed overwhelming happiness upon reuniting with his mother and siblings during the yuletide season. “I am very thankful that I was able to see my mother and siblings again. I did not expect to meet them today. I thank God for this blessing.”

His family revealed that they had thought Junjun was already dead after six years without seeing or hearing from him.

“I am thankful for this year, especially this coming Christmas, because we were able to see him again. Thank you to everyone who helped make this possible,” said Elizabeth Durano, Junjun’s sibling.

Through the Love Drive for Christmas of PPIO Agusan del Sur, with the support of PCSMO Agusan del Sur, Junjun’s story serves as an inspiration, demonstrating how the program helped reconnect a family that had long lost contact.

The Love Drive for Christmas is a program that goes beyond providing material assistance; it also shares a message of love, hope, and renewed faith with its beneficiaries.

“We do not lose hope. One day, our prayers will be answered. We are thankful to all the sponsors, the local government, and everyone who helped make this program successful, because we cannot do this alone,” said PJ Dela Peña, PPIO head.

Junjun was among the 93 PDLs under PCSMO who received Christmas gifts through the program. (KKRG, PIA Agusan del Sur, with the report from PTV Agusan del Sur)
