CAGWAIT, Surigao del Sur (PIA) – The Department of Public Works and Highways – Surigao del Sur (DPWH-SDS) recently turned over a newly constructed multi-purpose building (MPB) to the residents of Barangay Bitaugan West, Cagwait, empowering grassroots governance and deepening civic participation.
Attending the ceremony was House Committee chairperson on Public Works and Highways and 1st district Congressional Representative Romeo S. Momo Sr., whose presence underscored the national government’s support for local infrastructure that strengthened community development.
Rep. Momo said, “This newly constructed facility provides functional public spaces at the barangay level to enhance service delivery and public engagement.”
The DPWH-SDS emphasized that the infrastructure is a welcome addition to the community, serving as a central hub for barangay officials and residents to conduct meetings, legislative sessions, and public consultations in a safe and organized environment. Equipped with barangay offices, a session hall, and restrooms, the building reflects the government’s ongoing commitment to enhancing local governance structures.
The members of the barangay council led by Punong Barangay Felix Vasquez shared that the building represented more than just a physical structure. “It is a symbol of empowerment, unity, and development for the people of Bitaugan West.”
Funded under the 2023 General Appropriations Act (GAA) with a contract amount of P5.79 million, the project was implemented efficiently, with construction that started on December 7, 2023, and completed ahead of schedule on September 1, 2024.
As the infrastructure begins its service to the public, it does not only improve administrative functionality, but also strengthens the connection between the local government and the people it serves, laying the foundation for more inclusive and responsive governance in Surigao del Sur.
