Farmers in Butuan City receive support from gov’t

BUTUAN CITY –  Some 500 farmers received fuel subsidies from the city government of Butuan through the City Agriculture and Veterinary Department in collaboration with the Department of Agriculture (DA) Caraga.

Fuel subsidies were distributed to farmers with agricultural machineries to help aid the farmers with the increasing prices of fuel. The farmers were given cards amounting to 3,000 pesos that they can present to accredited gas stations.

The subsidy was given to farmers registered in DA’s Registry System for the Basic Sectors in Agriculture (RSBSA).

According to Pierre Anthony Joven, agriculturist of the City Agriculture and Veterinary Department, Butuan City has 60 agricultural barangays with different extent of damage caused by shearline and pest.

He also added that with the help of DA there will be another round of distribution of fuel subsidy to the affected farmers.

Jean Estores Langanlangan, a rice farmer from barangay Antongalon, expressed his gratitude to the government for the fuel subsidy, especially that tending with their farm lands from the land preparation to harvest requires the use of machinery.

“I am grateful to the government that I am one of the beneficiaries of the program because with this card I can get fuel that I can use in the farm,” said Jean Estores Langanlangan.

The distribution of government assistance is in line with the goal of the government to help the farmers and fisherfolk recover their losses and sustain their livelihood.  (MFC, PIA-Caraga with a report from Butuan City PIO)
