SURIGAO CITY, Surigao del Norte -- The Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) Caraga, in partnership with the Department of Health – Drug Treatment and Rehabilitation Center (DOH-DTRC) Caraga, recently conducted a training on Basic Level Digital Literacy to 20 drug surrenderers in Surigao City.
The three-day training program equipped the participants with foundational digital skills to support their reintegration into society and enhance their employability.
The initiative provided participants with essential computer literacy, enabling them to navigate the digital landscape effectively and responsibly as they engaged in interactive workshops covering topics such as basic computer operations, internet navigation, and office productivity tools.
This also formed part of the government’s inclusive and broader commitment to bridging the digital divide and providing marginalized groups with opportunities for growth and empowerment.
Rudy, a former drug dependent, expressed gratitude for the opportunity, recognizing the importance of digital literacy in improving their daily lives, accessing job opportunities, and reconnecting with society through technology.
“The training provided me with knowledge on computers and once I go back to my family, I can use this skill to apply for online jobs and other opportunities,” he said.
“Our stay in this facility is not only for rehabilitation. We learn and become better individuals,” Rudy added.
The DICT's program on digital literacy highlighted the crucial role of technology in rehabilitation and reintegration, strengthening the ‘Bayang Digital Ang Bagong Pilipinas.’ (SDR, PIA Surigao del Norte with a report from DICT- Caraga)
