TAGBINA, Surigao del Sur (PIA) – The Kapit-Bisig Laban sa Kahirapan-Comprehensive and Integrated Delivery of Social Services (KALAHI-CIDSS) Pag-Abot Program, a flagship poverty alleviation initiative of the national government, has reached Tagbina, bringing P4 million in community development funds to empower local communities.
Barangays Soriano and Lago are among the primary beneficiaries, each receiving P2 million for priority projects aimed at improving public services and infrastructure.
During the recent municipal orientation, local officials, barangay representatives, and program facilitators convened to discuss the implementation of the Community-Driven Development (CDD) approach. This strategy ensured that community members actively participate in decision-making and project execution, fostering a sense of ownership and accountability at the grassroots level.
Mayor Glaiza Jane Polizon-Lanete expressed her gratitude to the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) for selecting Tagbina as a program beneficiary, emphasizing the crucial partnership between the local government and the national agency in advancing inclusive and sustainable development.
From national to local: A direct impact on communities
The KALAHI-CIDSS Pag-Abot Program followed a bottom-up approach, allowing local residents to identify their most pressing needs and directly participate in implementing solutions. This ensured that national funding translates into real, on-the-ground impact, particularly for remote and underserved communities.
Both beneficiaries expressed optimism and appreciation for the initiative through Vilma S. Oftana, punong barangay of Lago, and Punong Barangay Eustaquio Roldan T. Lamigo of Soriano. Both officials emphasized that the fund provided long-awaited opportunities to address urgent community concerns.
The Municipal Inter-Agency Committee (MIAC), the area coordinating team (ACT), and the municipal coordinating team (MCT) were actively involved in the implementation and monitoring of the projects, ensuring efficient use of funds and accountability at the grassroots level.
A testament to inclusive and sustainable development
The P4 million development fund allowed Tagbina town to enhance local infrastructure, strengthen social services, and promote economic opportunities, while also upholding the principles of transparency, inclusivity, and participatory governance. With barangays Soriano and Lago now equipped with the necessary resources, they are set to take a proactive role in their own progress, embodying the national government’s vision of empowered, self-sufficient, and development-driven communities.
