CPD-13 celebrates anniversary with focus on health, well-being

BUTUAN CITY --  The Commission on Population and Development (CPD) Caraga marked its 56th Founding Anniversary on Wednesday, February 19,, with a regional celebration filled with meaningful discussions, learning sessions, and engaging activities for all staff and workers. This regional celebration was held simultaneously with the CPD Central Office and all regional offices nationwide, fostering a unified spirit across the organization.

In his welcome message, CPD Caraga Director Alexander A. Makinano emphasized the theme, “Tao ang Puso sa Pag-unlad, CPD: Katuwang sa Paglilingkod para sa Pamilyang Pilipino!.” He highlighted that the crafting of policies and plans must always be rooted in the Population and Development (POPDEV) strategy—ensuring that programs and interventions respond to the needs and demands of the people to achieve both individual well-being and societal development.

“The POPDEV strategy is anchored on the fact that while the population is continuously growing, its needs and demands are unlimited. However, our fiscal, man-made, and natural resources remain limited. This is why policies must be well-crafted to ensure sustainable development,” said Dir. Makinano.

CPD health and wellness program launched

As part of the celebration, Makinano also introduced the CPD Health and Wellness Program, which aims to promote a holistic approach to well-being in the workplace. The program is guided by four critical elements of well-being:

• Saya (Joy) – Encouraging positivity and happiness among staff

• Gaan (Lightness) – Reducing stress and fostering a supportive environment

• Gana (Motivation) – Inspiring productivity and purpose-driven work

Sigla (Vitality) – Promoting physical and mental health for sustained energy and resilience

He emphasized, "When our staff and workers are healthy and well, they have the passion and motivation to serve the people effectively, fulfilling our mandate with greater commitment and efficiency."

Morning session: health and reflection

To reinforce the importance of a healthy workforce, Dr. Prieto of Buenavista Rural Health Unit delivered an insightful lecture on Healthy Lifestyle, following the Department of Health (DOH) framework. Staff members learned practical ways to improve their daily health habits, emphasizing the connection between wellness and workplace productivity.

This was followed by “Kwentong CPD,” where long-serving regular staff shared their personal stories of how CPD Caraga supported their physiological needs, career growth, and overall professional development. Many expressed deep gratitude for the agency’s role in their personal and professional lives.

Afternoon activities: learning and fun

The celebration continued in the afternoon with a Population Quiz, where staff tested their knowledge about CPD’s establishment, growth, and the evolution of the country’s population program. The activity served as both an educational and engaging way to revisit the history and impact of CPD over the years.

Finally, to cap off the day’s festivities, parlor games brought laughter and camaraderie as all staff participated, fostering teamwork and strengthening bonds among colleagues.

As CPD Caraga celebrated its 56 years of public service, the agency remains committed to its mission of developing policies and programs that put people at the heart of sustainable development. The celebration reflected CPD’s dedication not only to the Filipino family’s welfare but also to the well-being and empowerment of its very own employees. (May Ann O. Escobal, CPD Caraga/PIA-Caraga)
