By Nida Grace P. Barcena

TAGBINA, Surigao del Sur --  A total of 25 women from various barangays in Tagbina completed the training on dressmaking conducted by the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) in collaboration with the local government of Tagbina in Surigao del Sur through its Special Programs Division.

The training, held on February 20-21, at the Indigenous People Cultural Center (IPCC) function hall in Tagbina town was facilitated by TESDA Competency-Based Training (CBT) Trainer Beatriz M. Acquiatan.

Special Programs Division Chief Glenn Lazaro said, “The program equipped the participants with essential dressmaking skills, providing them with opportunities for livelihood and economic empowerment. Also, the local government continues to prioritize sustainable livelihood initiatives, especially for women in the community.”

For the participants, the training will open better opportunities and empowerment to the women such as Merlinda Amuray, one of the graduates, shared her joy and gratitude saying, "Daku kaayo akong kalipay nga nakaapil sa dressmaking training sa TESDA, sa dugang kahibalo nga makatabang og dugang income. (I am very happy to have joined the TESDA dressmaking training because this additional knowledge will help increase our income).”

Several participants are now planning to start small businesses, while others see dressmaking as a way to supplement their household income. Many expressed excitement on creating custom clothing for their families and communities, boosting their confidence and financial stability.

This initiative reflected Tagbina’s commitment to skill development and self-sufficiency. The partnership between the local government and TESDA remained steadfast in promoting capacity-building programs that enhance economic opportunities and uplift the local community. (NGPB, PIA-Surigao del Sur)
