PMO Surigao recognized as Best Organizational Unit

SURIGAO CITY, Surigao del Norte (PIA) --  The Port Management Office (PMO) of Surigao received the Best Organizational Unit Award during the Philippine Ports Authority's (PPA) 50th anniversary celebration. 

The event, marking half a century of the PPA's operations, was held on July 11 at the historic Metropolitan Theater in Manila. 

According to PMO Surigao Manager Froilan Caturla the award recognized PMO Surigao's exceptional performance and dedication to upholding the PPA's ideals through the years and several key achievements contributed to this recognition such as Environmental Stewardship through PMO Surigao's commitment to sustainable operations was acknowledged with the prestigious APEC Green Port Award. 

He said that the recognition highlighted the port's ability to maintain efficient operations while prioritizing environmental protection and Financial Performance in which the port demonstrated remarkable financial competence, generating a record-breaking revenue of 695 million pesos in 2023. 

"This achievement underscored the port's innovative approaches and fiscal responsibility. With technological advancements, PMO Surigao  positioned itself at the forefront of digital transformation in the maritime industry," Caturla said. 

He added that the implementation of a globally acclaimed automatic identification system (AIS) significantly enhanced the efficiency of the port operations. 

The Best Organizational Unit Award did not only recognize PMO Surigao's past achievements but also set expectations for its future performance. 

As the maritime industry continues to evolve, the port's success may serve as a model for other port management offices across the Philippines. As the PPA moves into its next half-century, the achievements of PMO Surigao highlighted the potential for innovation and excellence in the Philippine maritime and logistics industry.
