5 rebels surrender in Surigao Sur town

TANDAG CITY, Surigao del Sur (PIA) - Some five  Communist Party of the Philippines – New People’s Army - Terrorists (CNTs) voluntarily surrendered with three firearms on March 5, 2024, through the joint efforts of the 75th Infantry (Marauder) Battalion and the 2nd Scout Ranger (Second to None) Battalion.

According to 75IB Civil Military Operations chief Lt. Jezreel Bajar, two CNTs are from Regional Sentro-de-Gravidad, while the other three CNTs are from the Dismantled Guerilla Front 19 (DGF19), both of the North Eastern Mindanao Regional Committee (NEMRC).

The rebels accordingly were identified as alias Rodney, Ella, Goma, Trojan, and Zac. They brought with them one M653 rifle, one KG 45, and one improvised carbine rifle.

Based on the interview with the surrenderees, they decided to surrender due to the relentless military operations, exhaustion, and hunger. Accordingly, they realized that they were just being used by the terrorist group for the self-interest of their leaders.

The surrenderees believed that the government will guide, and help them return to mainstream society and live peacefully together with their families.

Further, the said surrenderees will be enrolled in the Enhanced Comprehensive Local Integration Program (E-CLIP) wherein they can receive immediate financial and livelihood assistance from the government, Bajar noted.

Lieutenant Colonel Jan B. Molero, commanding officer of 75IB said, "To those who chose to surrender, this marked the beginning of a journey towards making a positive impact in the province of Surigao del Sur and to help end local communist armed conflict.”

The official called on the remaining CNTs to surrender, and assured that the government will help support them as they go back to mainstream society.

“To our friends who are still with the CTG, remember that it is never too late to embrace a fresh start. Fear not, for the Philippine Army and all government instrumentalities are always ready to support you every step of the way," Molero. added. (Photo courtesy to 75IB/PIA-Surigao del Sur)
