Butuan, Cabadbaran to implement program with POPCOM, DSWD

BUENAVISTA, Agusan del Norte -- The cities of Butuan and Cabadbaran will receive a cash grant amounting to PhP300,000 each for the pilot implementation of the Social Protection Program for Adolescent Mothers and their Children or SPPAMC.

In light of this, the Commission on Population and Development (POPCOM) - Caraga will facilitate a three-day Program Design Workshop on April 25 to 27, 2022 at the Grand Palace Hotel, Butuan City, that will cover the operational framework and design of SPPAMC. Participants are the main local stakeholders in social protection of the LGUs which are from the Population Office, Main Health Centers, Nutrition Office, City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO), Gender and Development Office, Department of Education (DepEd), Local Youth Development Office, Public Employment Service Office, Planning and Development Office, Sangguniang Kabataan Federation, and Sangguniang Chair for Health.

POPCOM – Caraga shall transfer the amount to the city governments of Cabadbaran and Butuan through an existing Trust Fund Account for the SPPAMC. Along with the financial grant, POPCOM Caraga will also provide technical assistance to the two cities such as the conduct of relevant training and capability-building strategies, development of tools for program implementation, and service delivery assistance, to name a few.

SPPAMC is designed to improve the well-being and quality of life of adolescent mothers and their children especially in poor, marginalized and difficult conditions. Both POPCOM and the city governments of Butuan and Cabadbaran hope to see a reduction and prevention of unintended and repeat pregnancies among adolescent girls in the context of Adolescent Health and Development Program (AHDP) localization efforts.
