NPA rebel surrenders in Surigao City
SURIGAO CITY, Surigao del Norte -- A New People’s Army (NPA) squad member voluntarily surrendered to the Surigao City Police Station on Thursday, April 21.
Surigao del Norte Police Provincial Office (SDN PPO) Provincial Director Police Colonel Renato C. Mercado identified the returnee as “Arki”, 29 years old, a squad member of “AME ABE SQUAD”, and a resident of Purok 4, Brgy. Pong-on, San Agustin, Surigao del Sur.
This was through the elements of the intelligence personnel of Surigao City Police Station together with Regional Intelligence Unit-13-PITSDN, SDN PPO Provincial Intelligence Unit, SDN PPO Drug Enforcement Unit, 1st Surigao del Norte Provincial Mobile Force Company, and Maritime Surigao del Norte.
"Arki'' was under the Guerrilla Front 19 and 21 and a squad member of ABI AME SQUAD under the command of Dindo Ampado Pison or simply known as "Dindo", platoon leader. He learned that his comrades already surrendered to the authorities and are now enjoying the assistance of the government. This encouraged him to surrender also.
He is now under the custody of Surigao City Police Station for proper disposition and enrollment to the Enhanced Comprehensive Local Integration Program (E-CLIP), a government program that aims to provide former rebels appropriate support and access to social services.
PCol. Mercado called on rebels to surrender and live a peaceful life. “We are calling to other rebel members to surrender and to return to mainstream society. B with your families and live a normal life," he added. (PNP-Surigao del Norte/PIA-Surigao del Norte)
