SurSur commemorates Earth Day with various event

TANDAG CITY, Surigao del Sur -- The Diocese of Tandag City, in partnership with the Tandag City Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO) and stakeholders, celebrated Earth Day 2022 in Surigao del Sur in Tandag City.


Centering on the global theme, “Invest in Our Planet”, relevant activities were lined up to recognize the value and integrity of nature, as follows:

● 5 AM – Bike Parade at Tandag-Tago areas;
● 8:30 AM – Eucharistic Celebration at the New Cathedral;
●10 AM – Symposium/Ongoing Wildlife Exhibit at the New Cathedral;
● 11:45 AM – Ecumenical/Interfaith Prayer for Ecology at the New Cathedral;
● 11:55 AM – Pledge Protect Environment at the New Cathedral;
● 1 PM to 3 PM - Coastal Clean-Up – Tandag City Coastline

A poster-making contest was also hosted, participated by parishes and schools that submitted entries focusing on the sub-theme, "Invest in our Planet: TuTuKi (Tubig TUburan sa Kinabuhi)”.

Meanwhile, the Provincial Government of Surigao del Sur, through the Provincial Environment and Natural Resources-Local Government Unit (PENRO-LGU), conducted an information, communication, and education (IEC) drive to promote awareness among the public on the importance of the celebration, followed by a tree planting activity at Ihawan Spring Community Watershed, Barangay Awasian, Tandag City. The said activity is in collaboration with the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO), Tandag City Water District, North Eastern Mindanao State University (NEMSU), the City Government of Tandag, and partner stakeholders.
