MinDa, LGU-Bislig hold 1st vegetable derby

BISLIG CITY -- The Mindanao Development Authority (MinDA) chaired by Sec. Emmanuel PiΓ±ol in partnership with the local government unit (LGU) of Bislig City through the City Agriculture Office successfully conducted the culmination program of the 1st Vegetable Derby held at the demo farm of Sitio Mabog, Barangay San Roque, this city on July 15, 2021. The implementation of the said project gained full support from the private seed company, US Seedworks.

There were four participating teams in the derby composed of farmer cooperators and seed company (Pombo Selection, Paghasian Selection, Misagal Selection and Seedworks Company).

Each team was given areas in demonstrating the performance of the most commonly grown vegetables in the area such as amplaya, string beans, eggplant, watermelon, tomatoes and many more.

The Pombo Selection was the chosen winner as Ampalaya King while Panghasian Selection as the Stringbeans King and Seedworks Company winner of Eggplant King.

The program commenced with inspiring messages delivered by Secretary Emmanuel F. PiΓ±ol, Bislig City Mayor Florencio Garay, Governor Alexander T. Pimentel and Congressman Johnny T. Pimentel ably represented by MinDA consultant Dr. Patma Idris, Executive Assistant IV Jose S. Candia, and Board Member Atty. Conrad Cejoco, respectively. The event was also attended by respected guests and visitors.

The significant project of MinDA in collaboration with LGU Bislig City is expecting an improvement of vegetable quality and productivity of the local farmers and with its purpose to introduce quality and high yielding seeds, along with the proper farming practices to the farmers in the area of Sitio Mabog.
