AFP conducts peacekeeping effort for Lent in Caraga

TANDAG CITY, April 18 (PIA) – Army 401st Brigade Commander Col. Gregory Cayetano said that conducting peacekeeping effort during Holy Week Celebration is part of their job, linking it to Operation Plan (Oplan) Semana Santa.

Cayetano, whose area of responsibility (AOR) covers the provinces of Agusan del Sur and Surigao del Sur, pointed out that they are under the order to continue to keep an eye on the New People’s Army (NPA), who, he hinted, may launch an attack at any time even during this Lenten season.  He said that rebels do not have any religious affiliation to care about. 

Meanwhile,  Col. Cayetano stressed that in order to attain a lasting peace and sustainable development, the army needs the cooperation of the citizenry, adding that they have projects to carry out especially in the hinterlands.

Earlier, Col. Cayetano said that he has already ordered an investigation to the burning on Palm Sunday night of a “backhoe” in Barobo town, Surigao del Sur, maintaining that rebels are not yet off the hook. (NGBT/Radyo ng Bayan/PIA-Surigao del Sur)
