Tandag City activates emergency response deployment for Sangkaan Festival

TANDAG CITY, Surigao del Sur (PIA) — The Tandag City Emergency Response Team (TCERT) has activated its emergency response deployment for the 14th Sangkaan Festival 2026, putting the city’s emergency preparedness and response structure in place for the week-long celebration.
The deployment was formalized during the Operational Period Briefing and Ceremonial TCERT Deployment on September 4 at the Multi-Purpose Hall and Park Shed, City Hall Compound, Barangay Awasian, this city.
The activation placed the Emergency Operations Center (EOC) under Blue Alert status and operationalized the Incident Management Team (IMT) under the Incident Command System (ICS), along with various response clusters that will provide emergency assistance during the festivities.
The briefing covered the responders’ respective roles and responsibilities, operational protocols, coordination mechanisms, and safety measures to ensure a unified response to possible incidents.
The members of the EOC, ICS, and response clusters also took their oath of service, affirming their commitment to carry out their duties and provide timely assistance to residents, festival-goers, and visitors.
Representing Tandag City Mayor Roxanne Pimentel, Sangguniang Panlungsod Member Hyna Jean Boniao recognized the dedication of the emergency responders and their role in safeguarding the community during the festival.
Vice Mayor Eleanor Momo, through SP Member Maria Lourdes Kharen Momo, meanwhile, reminded the responders to prioritize their safety while on duty.
City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) Chief Reyveen John Geli said, “TCERT will remain on full deployment from September 4 to 11 to provide emergency response and assistance throughout the Sangkaan Festival.”
“The deployment is part of the city government of Tandag’s preparations to ensure a safe and orderly celebration and strengthen its capacity to respond to emergencies involving residents and visitors,” Geli added.
The 14th Sangkaan Festival brings together various activities and events in Tandag City, requiring the coordinated presence of emergency responders throughout the celebration.
With the activation of the EOC, ICS, and response clusters, TCERT is set to provide emergency services and support public safety operations during the festival period. (NGPB, PIA Surigao del Sur)
