LGSF-SBDP projects bring basic services to Hinatuan, Surigao Sur

HINATUAN, Surigao del Sur (PIA) — Residents of several barangays in Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur now have improved access to basic services following the turnover of six completed projects funded under the 2025 Local Government Support Fund–Support to Barangay Development Program (LGSF-SBDP).
The completed projects include 50 solar streetlights each in the barangays of Harip, Bitoon, Tidman, and Tarusan; a solar-powered Level II water system in Barangay Dugmanon; and a school building with a comfort room in Barangay San Juan. Each project received P2.5 million in funding.
The Aug. 10–11 turnover activities were attended by Department of the Interior and Local Government-Surigao del Sur Director Rizza D. Sion, Municipal Local Government Operations Officer Recto M. Mantiza Jr., Hinatuan Mayor Tito A. CaΓ±edo III, as well as barangay officials, implementers, and community stakeholders.
For residents of Barangay Dugmanon, the completion of the solar-powered Level II water system addresses a long-standing challenge in accessing water closer to their homes.
Punong Barangay Miraflor Malinao expressed gratitude to the national and local governments for making the project possible, saying the new water system has made a significant difference in the community.
“Before, it was very difficult because we had to go far to get water. Now, water is already available near our homes. We are very grateful to those behind the realization and implementation of this project,” Malinao said.
Meanwhile, the solar streetlights installed in Barangays Bitoon, Harip, Tidman, and Tarusan are expected to improve visibility along community roads, providing residents with safer passage at night while promoting the use of renewable energy.
The school building and comfort room in Barangay San Juan, meanwhile, are expected to provide learners and teachers with a more conducive and appropriate learning environment.
The projects underscore the government’s continuing efforts to bring essential services and development interventions closer to communities, particularly in barangays where access to basic facilities remains a priority.
DILG-Surigao del Sur emphasized that the successful completion of the projects reflects the importance of convergence among national government agencies, local government units, barangay officials, implementing partners, and community beneficiaries to ensure that public resources translate into concrete and meaningful benefits.
More than physical infrastructure, the projects are expected to contribute to safer communities, improved access to basic services, and better living conditions for residents.
Through the LGSF-SBDP, government investments continue to support grassroots development by addressing priority needs identified at the local level and strengthening the delivery of essential services in communities.
