BUTUAN CITY (PIA) — The Butuan City Police Office (BCPO) officially reported that the Christmas and New Year celebrations in the city were peaceful and orderly, with no major crimes or untoward incidents recorded throughout the holiday period.
Police Colonel Restituto P. Lacano Jr., officer-in-charge of BCPO, thanked all the Butuanons for their cooperation and the collective efforts of the community and law enforcement authorities, which were instrumental in ensuring a safe and peaceful yuletide merrymaking.
“We thank every Butuanon for their cooperation and our police officers for their dedication, which is the reason for our peaceful merrymaking,” Lacano said.
The initiative was supported by an intensified police presence in churches, shopping malls, transport terminals, and other crowded public areas.
An intensified firecracker safety inspection was also conducted, ensuring that only authorized sellers are allowed to sell items within the firecracker zones and are compliant with the safety regulations.
The continuous implementation of checkpoints, public reminders, and warnings through ‘recoreda’ or making public announcements throughout the entire city while making rounds using motorcycles and mobile patrol units also contributed to the safe celebrations.
“Based on the data provided by the Department of Health- Center for Health Development (DOH-CHD) Caraga, no new fireworks-related injuries were recorded in the Caraga region on December 24-25, 2025, serving as concrete evidence of the successful collaborative efforts of the community and law enforcement,” Lacano added.
As the city welcomed the New Year, the BCPO also remained on full alert. The public was strongly reminded to refrain from using illegal firecrackers and warned that indiscriminate firing of firearms is strictly prohibited.
Additionally, the PNP advised people to purchase fireworks from authorized vendors in display zones and avoid illegal items to ensure that the New Year is greeted without any firecracker injuries or accidents.
Residents were also encouraged to report violations, emergencies, and suspicious activities to the nearest police station or to call 911. (MFC, PIA Caraga with a report from BCPO)
