By Mariesh F. Celedeña

BUTUAN CITY (PIA) — The city government of Butuan through the City Education and Development Department (CEDD) in partnership with the Sangguniang Kabataan and Butuan City Youth Development Council conducted an OpportYOUTHnidad Caravan on August 21.

The activity formed part of the “Linggo ng Kabataan” or the youth week to empower the youth and engage them to participate in government activities and contribute to nation building.

It also served as a one-stop venue where young people can access programs on education, volunteerism, employment, health, entrepreneurship, and other youth-related services, fostering awareness.

Offices such as the Department of Social Welfare and Development, Department of Education, Integrated Bar of the Philippines, Philippine Army, Agusan Centennial Legacy Leos Club, Boy Scout of the Philippines Agusan Council, different departments of the city government, among others rendered their services during the caravan.

During the activity, the City Employment and Services Department offered summer and Christmas job opportunities, while the City Social Welfare and Development Department conducted an advocacy campaign for mental health awareness and orientation on the Unlad-Kabataan Program.

Maria Lourdes G. Naquita, acting division chief of the Learners Support Services and Youth Formation Section, shared that the activity was open to all individuals, especially the youth sector. “The activity was conducted to promote participation among the youth sector in the city. Participation is one of the fundamental rights of the youth and the children.”

“The OpportYOUTHnidad Caravan is one of the activities we created to encourage and empower the youth. We had various activities planned out for the “Linggo ng Kabataan” celebration,” said Naquita.

Meanwhile, a youth congress was also held simultaneously that featured empowering sessions and engaging discussions allowing the youth to connect, learn, and become leaders. (MFC, PIA Caraga)
