SURIGAO CITY, Surigao del Norte (PIA) - A total of 92 persons who use drugs (PWUDs) from 17 barangays in Surigao City have completed the Community-Based Drug Rehabilitation Program (CBDRP), and they were formally declared ‘graduated’ in a ceremony on June 24.
The batch included 79 male and 13 female graduates who underwent months of structured rehabilitation and support under the city’s ongoing efforts to address drug use through community-based approaches.
The CBDRP, implemented through the City Anti-Drug Abuse Council (CADAC), reflects the city government’s commitment to rehabilitation and reintegration, giving individuals the support they need to rebuild their lives.
Serving as a ray of hope to the PWUDs, their families and communities, it aims to rehabilitate the PWUDs’ physical, mental, and spiritual well-being through individual and family counseling, therapeutic sessions, community care intervention, health and psychotherapy, and emotional, interpersonal, and spiritual support services.
Mario, a PWUD graduate said, “At the beginning I was resistant to the program because I felt hopeless at that time. Today, I thank the city government of Surigao for giving us another chance and for helping us get out from vices, especially on drug use. My family is also thankful. I will try my best to continue to change my life for the better.”
Under the leadership of City Mayor Pablo Yves L. Dumlao II, the city government of Surigao through the CADAC, in partnership with the City Social Welfare and Development Office, City Health Office, and barangay local government units, including the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA), Department of Health (DOH), Drug Abuse Treatment and Rehabilitation Centers (DATRC), among others, continues to support inclusive programs that promote recovery, dignity, and second chances for every Surigaonon.
