593 vulnerable families in Surigao City receive aid from DSWD

By Susil D. Ragas

SURIGAO CITY, Surigao del Norte (PIA)—A total of 593 families received food assistance under the Food for Work Program of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), in partnership with the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO) on July 25 at the gymnasium of Brgy. San Juan of this city.

The program provided family food packs (FFPs) to beneficiaries from the vulnerable sectors who participated in community-based work activities. These included women victims of violence, solo parents, members of Bangon Kababayinang Surigao Inc., persons who use drugs (PWUDs), and from the indigenous peoples communities of Mamanwa, Bajau, and other displaced families.

DSWD’s Food for Work Program aims to extend temporary employment while promoting community participation in efforts that benefit local development.

Ramon, a beneficiary, shared his gratitude during the distribution of aid, saying, “The food assistance has helped me and my family not to worry about our daily meals.”

“This assistance not only nourishes our bodies but gives us peace of mind,” he added.

Present during the activity were City Social Welfare and Development Officer Lenie S. Liray and City Councilor Karl Duane Casurra who joined the distribution and encouraged sustainable collaboration between the DSWD and the city government of Surigao to support vulnerable groups in the communities.
