Agusan Sur PDLs earn Alternative Learning System diplomas

PROSPERIDAD, Agusan del Sur -- Some forty-six persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) completed the Alternative Learning System (ALS) and received their certificates during a graduation ceremony, held on July 14, at the Provincial Correctional and Security Management Office (PCSMO) Multi-Purpose Hall in Patin-ay, Prosperidad, Agusan del Sur.

Twenty-three graduated from elementary and other 23 in the senior high school.

The program aims to provide second chances through education and prepare PDLs for reintegration into society with improved literacy and life skills.

Division ALS Focal Person Ivy Claire Morales lauded the PDLs for their achievement, describing their graduation as a testament to their sincere commitment and determination to build a better future for themselves.

She also expressed hope that their accomplishment would inspire others to pursue education and personal growth despite life’s challenges.

"Never stop believing in yourselves and continue doing your best in all aspects of life," she said.

The 2024–2025 batch includes graduates aged 57 and 60, proving that it’s never too late to pursue education.

Alias "Jun," a 57-year old PDL is determined to fulfill his goals despite his situation. "I will continue to learn further to achieve my goals and help my family," he said.

"It's never too late. We can all do what's best for us should we want to," expressed alias "Lan," a 60-year old PDL.

Guided by the theme, "Henerasyon ng Pagkakaisa, Kaagapay ng Bagong Pilipinas," the celebration underscored the transformative power of education, even behind bars. (Jennifer P. Gaitano, PPIO-PAMRE Agusan del Sur/PIA Agusan del Sur)
