Tandag’s Charter Day highlights ‘Serbisyo Kalandrakas’

TANDAG CITY (PIA) — The city government of Tandag, under the leadership of Mayor Roxanne Pimentel mounted the highly anticipated ‘Serbisyo Kalandrakas’ at the Vicente T. Pimentel Jr. Memorial Gymnasium on June 22.
As part of the city’s 18th Charter Day celebration, the Serbisyo Kalandrakas, which meant an event with extended government services, brought the community together and provided them with essential services, manifesting the spirit of service, compassion, and community pride.
It reflected the city’s firm commitment to inclusive public service, reaching out directly to its constituents, especially the vulnerable sectors.
Mayor Pimentel emphasized the values at the heart of the city’s development saying, “As we celebrate today, let us renew our commitment to the core values that bind us – unity, integrity, service, and compassion.”
“Serbisyo Kalandrakas is more than a program, it is a celebration of responsive leadership, collaborative governance, and a people-first approach that continues to shape a brighter, more inclusive future for all Tandaganons,” she said.
Among the main highlights was the distribution of assistive devices to identified senior citizens and persons with disabilities (PWDs), a gesture that spoke volumes about the LGU’s continued focus on accessibility, inclusion, and social welfare.
Meanwhile, 200 pregnant women received much-needed maternal care kits, consisting of nutripacks, buntis and treatment kits, and milk supplements, promoting health and wellness for both mother and child.
Evelyn, a pregnant beneficiary, expressed gratitude after receiving the maternal health kits and supplements during the event. “Dako kaayo akong pasalamat sa city government kay nakadawat ko og buntis kit, vitamins, ug uban pang tabang nga magamit gyud nako sa akong pagbuntis. Usa kini ka dako nga tabang para sa amo nga mga inahan nga walay igong budget (I’m truly grateful to the city government for giving me a buntis kit, vitamins, and other support that are essential during pregnancy. It means so much to us expectant mothers, especially those with limited means).”
Community joy was equally visible as free ice cream delighted participants of all ages. Adding excitement to the occasion was a raffle draw, where lucky attendees won groceries, sacks of rice, and P500 cash, further energizing the atmosphere with cheer and gratitude.
The event was made even more meaningful by the presence and full support of the city’s legislators, led by Vice Mayor Elanor Momo, who affirmed that the city’s legislative and executive branches are united in delivering quality public service and promoting people-centered governance.
Meanwhile, the city’s official journey began on June 23, 2007, when Tandag was declared a component city under Republic Act 9392, a milestone achieved under Mayor Pimentel’s administration. This annual Charter Day celebration now stands as a powerful reminder of Tandag’s progress, from its roots as a municipality to a growing city that is built on unity and hope.
