SLP Caraga scales up efforts to capacitate beneficiaries, project sustainability

BUTUAN CITY -- To enhance the efficiency and operational capacity of its program participants, the Sustainable Livelihood Program (SLP) Caraga intensified its capacity-building initiatives through a recent series of regionwide comprehensive skills training sessions and project inspections for various SLP associations.

The training sessions covered a wide range of topics, each carefully tailored to address the specific needs of different communities across the region. These included:

– Introduction to profit sharing in the towns of Carmen, Agusan del Norte; Sta. Monica, San Benito, and Burgos in Surigao del Norte;

– Social preparation in Cagdianao, Province of Dinagat Islands;

– Product enhancement conducted in partnership with the Department of Trade and Industry in Jabonga, Agusan del Norte; and

– Training on financial literacy in Bayugan City.

Additional specialized training was conducted to further support livelihood development. These included hog and swine management and mushroom kropek making, in collaboration with PhilRice–Agusan del Norte and the Kitcharao Municipal Agriculture Office (MAO); coconut delicacies training and a fire safety awareness seminar, in partnership with the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) and the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) in Cortes, Surigao del Sur; and a technical training on chicken egg production, held in coordination with the Municipal Agriculture Office (MAO) San Francisco, Agusan del Sur.

“We’ll do our best to put into practice everything we learned from the training so that our project will grow and sustain. We also want to make sure that the support given to us by the government doesn’t go to waste,” said Angelito Apollo, president of the Asenso Poblacion SLP Association from Bayugan City.

He also expressed sincere gratitude to the DSWD-SLP for organizing the activity.

“We’re truly thankful to DSWD-SLP for their continuous support and guidance, to our facilitator who was patient and always willing to answer our questions, and to all the members who showed up and took the time to learn with us,” added Apollo.

In parallel, the program conducted the series of joint and final inspections of the beneficiaries' projects in partnership with various local government units in Cortes and Barobo, Surigao del Sur; San Francisco and Trento, Agusan del Sur; as well as project site inspections in Basilisa and Libjo, Province of Dinagat Islands, and in Tandag City. Additionally, a project monitoring visit was carried out in Butuan City to ensure ongoing progress and compliance.

Through these site visits and evaluations, the program ensured that projects are implemented according to plan, resources are properly utilized, and intended beneficiaries receive the full benefits.

These efforts also helped them identify challenges early on, allowing timely interventions and technical assistance to improve project outcomes and sustainability across the Caraga region.

By continuing to empower participants and strengthen community-based projects, SLP Caraga fosters not only the growth and sustainability of livelihood initiatives but also responsible stewardship of government resources. (DSWD Caraga/PIA Caraga)
