DICT Caraga trains LGU Socorro on cybersecurity

SURIGAO CITY, Surigao del Norte -- In line with the continuing celebration of this year's National ICT Month (NICTM), the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) Caraga, through its Cybersecurity Bureau conducted a two-day Cybersecurity Awareness and Philippine National Public Key Infrastructure (PNPKI) User’s Training on June 11-13,  held at the Socorro Municipal Hall.

A total of 32 employees from various departments of the municipality of Socorro participated in the training sessions.

This initiative, supporting the observance's theme, “Walang iwanan sa Digital Bayanihan,” reflected the DICT’s unwavering commitment to inclusive digital empowerment and secure e-governance.

The two-part training was designed to enhance the cybersecurity awareness of local government employees and provide hands-on knowledge of PNPKI—a system enabling secure and legally recognized digital transactions within government processes.

“We recognize that cybersecurity is no longer optional. It's an essential layer in our journey toward digital transformation,” said DICT Caraga’s Cybersecurity Bureau, emphasizing the critical role of awareness and digital security tools in public service.

Municipal Assessor Richard Dano, in his closing remarks, expressed appreciation to DICT Caraga, stating, “This training is very essential for the enhancement of our ICT knowledge, most especially in cybersecurity. We are hoping for more training to streamline processes within our operations.” This opportunity uplifted our skills as an employee of LGU Socorro."

During the cybersecurity awareness session, participants were introduced to real-world cyber threats, data protection techniques, and the importance of cultivating a security-first culture in government offices. The discussion on PNPKI user’s training also focused on digital certificates, legal basis, digital signatures, and secure identity authentication.

This capacity-building activity is one of DICT Caraga’s strategic efforts to foster a culture of cybersecurity and reinforce digital trust among government institutions in the region.

DICT Caraga extends its heartfelt gratitude to the municipality of Socorro for their enthusiastic participation, marking another milestone in promoting #DigitalBayanihan and building a safe, secure, and inclusive digital future. (DICT Caraga/PIA Surigao del Norte)
