BUTUAN CITY (PIA) — The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Caraga is intensifying efforts to fast-track four major infrastructure projects worth P81.9 billion, with a firm commitment from the government to complete them within their target timelines.
Newly
appointed Regional Director Alex Ramos emphasized that the on-schedule
completion of these flagship projects is a top priority of the agency, in
support of the national government’s vision to strengthen regional connectivity
and accelerate economic development in Caraga region and island of Mindanao.
“These
infrastructure projects are not just plans on paper, they are funded, already
underway, and we are committed to completing them as scheduled,” said Dir. Ramos.
“The government is making sure that no delays will hinder the benefits these
projects will bring to the people of Caraga.”
Leading
the list of priority projects is the P30.3 billion Maharlika Highway upgrade, a
key road network that connects Caraga to the Visayas and Luzon. Spanning from
2023 to 2028, the project has already received P11.5 billion in funding and
involves widening and rehabilitation of existing roads; reconstruction and
upgrading of damaged paved section; and improved road safety and efficiency for
motorists and freight.
Other
high-impact projects that will be fast-tracked, including the P26.2-billion
Butuan–Agusan Logistical Road which is now 19.94 percent complete, this project
supports the region’s supply chain and logistics sectors; the P8.8-billion
Cabadbaran-Puting Bato-Lanuza Road that will improve access to remote and
coastal communities, opening new opportunities for trade and tourism; and P16.5
billion Agusan Norte–Sur Lateral Road that is expected to strengthen
connectivity between northern and southern Agusan provinces.
Ramos
stressed that the DPWH Caraga is carrying forward all ongoing and priority
projects from the previous administration, ensuring continuity of government
efforts and alignment with the Build Better More infrastructure agenda.
“We
are not just building roads, we are building momentum for growth, access, and
opportunity. That’s why we are working double-time to meet all target
completion dates,” he said.
All
four priority projects are budgeted, and DPWH Caraga is coordinating closely
with stakeholders, local governments, and contractors to minimize delays and
ensure quality implementation.
Once
completed, these infrastructure projects are expected to improve the flow of
goods and services across provinces; boost local economies and job creation;
enhance mobility for residents and businesses; and position Caraga as a vital
link in the Mindanao economic corridor, said Ramos.
Also, the regional director urged the public support and cooperation as these large-scale projects progress across the Caraga region. (NCLM, PIA Caraga)
