DSWD launches Consumer Store Projects in Tagbina, Surigao Sur

TAGBINA, Surigao del Sur -- The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), in partnership with the local government unit of Tagbina, launched a series of consumer store projects designed to empower local communities and foster long-term economic sustainability.
This initiative, part of the DSWD's Sustainable Livelihood Program (SLP), is designed to bolster economic stability by offering participating associations reliable income opportunities, thereby fostering self-reliance and long-term growth.
According to Glenn Lazaro, chief of the Special Program Division, the project implementation was supported by the local government of Tagbina to enhance the association’s economic capacity and provide members with a sustainable source of income.
Sulong Sta. Maria SLPA
The Sulong Sta. Maria Livelihood Program Association (SLPA) celebrated the soft opening of its consumer store, funded by a P600,000 grant from the DSWD on January 15, 2024.
Masaganang Greenfield SLPA
Just a day earlier, on January 14, 2024, the Masaganang Greenfield SLPA inaugurated its consumer store, made possible by a P300,000 grant from the DSWD.
The event, attended by local officials, including Sangguniang Bayan members, marked another key step toward strengthening the community’s livelihood opportunities. Officials expressed their full support for similar future initiatives to ensure continued progress.
Madasigong Ugoban SLPA
On January 13, the municipality handed over another P300,000 consumer store to the Madasigong Ugoban SLPA. The turnover ceremony was attended by Tagbina Glaiza Jane Polizon-Lanete, alongside Sangguniang Bayan members and officials of the barangay.
Mayor Polizon-Lanete expressed optimism about the project’s potential to increase productivity and provide members with long-term income opportunities.
"These projects reflect our vision of a progressive and self-reliant Tagbina. By offering opportunities for sustainable income, we empower our people to create a better tomorrow," she said.
Empowered Magsaysay SLPA
The Empowered Magsaysay SLPA marked the launch of its consumer store, funded with a P600,000 grant on January 7.
During the event, the local chief executive stressed the transformative impact of the initiatives, highlighting how they not only improve productivity but also create pathways for economic advancement and community empowerment.

The implementation of the consumer store projects underscored the municipality's commitment to fostering inclusive growth and improving the quality of life for its citizens. The DSWD's SLP initiative is not just about providing financial support; it aims to instill a sense of empowerment and independence within the community, enabling members to build brighter futures for themselves and their families.
