DOST Surigao Norte upskills academe on Arduino programming, product dev't
SURIGAO CITY, Surigao del Norte -- In an effort to foster a vibrant science, technology, and innovation (STI) ecosystem in Surigao del Norte, the Department of Science and Technology - Provincial Research Innovation and Science Museum (DOST-PRISM) and the province of Surigao del Norte recently hosted a two-day technology training on Arduino Programming and Product Development held at the PRISM Building in Surigao City.
The training was participated by thirty enthusiastic participants, including teachers and students from the Department of Education (DepEd) - Surigao del Norte and Surigao City divisions.
The activity capacitated the participants on Arduino programming as a foundation for future STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) learning and innovation.
Engr. Ahanes M. Gallardo, project technical assistant II of DOST Caraga, led the training and emphasized on Arduino Programming as an ideal starting point within the dynamic world of robotics.
Engr. Gallardo explained the importance of the integrated development environment (IDE) and highlighted how it empowers learners to create projects using microcontrollers and components like sensors, actuators, and displays. Arduino programming is based on C and C++ languages, where users write "sketches" — or code — that define interactions, uploaded to an Arduino Board to execute tasks and functions.
The program’s user-friendly interface and supportive global community made it an excellent tool for beginners and experts alike, enabling projects ranging from home automation systems and robotics to wearable technology and interactive art installations.
This S&T initiative not only equipped the participants with technical skills but also encouraged the learners to pursue careers in science and technology, contributing to the nation’s progress and development. (DOST- Surigao del Norte/PIA-Surigao del Norte)
