17 associations in Agusan Sur receive checks, livelihood projects from DSWD

AGUSAN DEL SUR -- Some seventeen Sustainable Livelihood Program (SLP) associations (SLPA) from the different towns of this province recently received checks and livelihood projects from the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Field Office Caraga.

Eight of those SLPAs from the municipalities of Veruela, Talacogon, Prosperidad, and San Francisco accepted the consumer store, chicken egg production, and printing services projects from the said program, while the other nine received livelihood grants amounting to P4,590,000, which will serve as their seed capital for their microenterprises.

The turnover has served sectoral groups in the community, including persons with disabilities (PWDs).

Laforsin PWD SLP Association highlighted the skills of their members vital to the operations of their enterprise, which they acquired during the enhancement training provided by the program.

“We assure you that this opportunity will not go to waste. With all the training you’ve provided to us, I am confident that our members are highly capable,” said Glory Talha, president of the association.

Moreover, the Municipal Social Welfare and Development Officer (MSWDO) of Veruela stressed the significance and impact of the emerging livelihood associations, particularly on the economic condition of the said municipality.

“This ceremony marks the beginning of your journey towards a better living status. Your associations will have a significant impact on the trajectory of our economy,” remarked Masminda Canonoy, MSWDO of Veruela.

In addition, the program also sets out to open a super store in the aforementioned province, which is a bigger and better form of consumer store. It will supply goods and other commodities to microenterprises at a significantly lower price. (DSWDFO Caraga/PIA-Agusan del Sur)
