Quality, Resilience, Heart: The Story Behind Cris Butron Wood Furniture

In the quiet town of Santiago, Agusan del Norte, Cris Butron’s journey from homemaker to thriving entrepreneur began with a simple but determined idea saying, "Hindi ako palaging magtatrabaho, mabuti pa siguro magnegosyo nalang."

(I should not remain as an employee, there is a better future in business.)

Butron, a mother of five, wanted more than just temporary work as she wanted to build something lasting for the community.

In 2012, with a modest loan and the unwavering support of her husband, she launched Cris Butron Wood Furniture Manufacturing. Armed with only a motorcycle and a vision, the couple would travel around their town, introducing their handcrafted furniture to neighbors and nearby barangays. The quality of their work spoke for itself, and soon, word began to spread.

Butron’s dedication to craftsmanship earned her clients far beyond her hometown, with her pieces even reaching Makati and Manila. Among her high-profile customers are a general, SAF personnel, and police officials. A breakthrough moment came when Agata Mining Ventures, Inc. placed a significant order of 36 double-deck beds, 13 six-seater dining tables, and six sofa furniture. This project marked a turning point, establishing her reputation for quality and reliability in the furniture industry.

However, the road was not always smooth. Burton faced her share of challenges, including slow months with few customers and delays in payments. But through it all, she remained resilient, holding on to her commitment to maintaining the highest standards. Her perseverance paid off. Today, her business does not only thrive but also supports her family, helping her send her children to school. One child has already graduated from college, and others are well on their way.

Her advice to aspiring entrepreneurs is straightforward, “Find reliable, hardworking employees to maintain the quality of your products, and customers will always come back.” Her story is one of grit, heart, and a dedication to creating furniture that stands the test of time.
