Tribal rep of Tagbina wins Indigenous People’s Welfare Award
TAGBINA, Surigao del Sur -- Hawudon Nelbert Sahay, indigenous peoples' mandatory representative of the municipal government of Tagbina, was honored with the Indigenous People’s Welfare Award during the prestigious National Bayani Ka! Awards held in Quezon City on October 10.
The accolade recognized his tireless advocacy for the rights and welfare of indigenous peoples. His efforts underscored the crucial role of indigenous communities in advancing community-driven development across the country.
Several representatives from the municipality of Tagbina, Surigao del Sur also earned recognition for their exceptional contributions. Namely:

Award

Sta. Fe – nominated for the Improved Local Governance
Award
· Barangay Kahayagan –
recognized for their Operation and Maintenance Group
· Johnel V. Husain –
nominated for the Exceptional Youth Volunteer Award
These nominations
reflected the LGU's active role in
grassroots development, showcasing the town’s dedication to promoting
gender equality, good governance, and youth involvement.
Glenn B. Lazaro, municipal area coordinator and special programs division chief, was awarded the Katibayan ng Pagpapahalaga for his unwavering support to the program on Kapit-Bisig Laban sa Kahirapan-Comprehensive and Integrated Delivery of Social Services (KALAHI-CIDSS) which aims to empower communities through participatory development.
Tagbina’s strong presence at the Bayani Ka! Awards highlighted its excellence in implementing the Community-Driven Development (CDD) approach. Under the leadership of Mayor Glaiza Jane Polizon-Lanete, a recognized CDD champion, the municipality continues to champion programs that build sustainable, inclusive, and resilient communities.
