FORECAST: The Zamboanga Peninsula will experience cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms due to the Southwest Monsoon. These conditions may lead to possible flash floods or landslides, especially during moderate to occasionally heavy rainfall. The rest of Mindanao will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms also influenced by the Southwest Monsoon. Winds will be light to moderate from the southwest, with slight to moderate seas (wave height between 0.6 to 2.1 meters).

DA-13 turns over post-harvest machineries to Surigao Sur farmers

TANDAG CITY, Surigao del Sur (PIA) -- The Department of Agriculture (DA) Caraga, through the Agricultural Program Coordinating Office of Surigao del Sur (APCO-SDS), successfully conducted the ceremonial turnover of certificates to the farmer beneficiaries of the post-harvest machineries on September 13 in Tandag City. 

The activity took place during the "Handog ng Pangulo: Serbisyong Sapat Para sa Lahat," that marked a significant milestone for local farmers who benefitted from the P18.6 million  cost of the equipment.

DA-APCO chief Alvin Asuncion revealed that they allocated several essential machines, including two units of 4WD tractors, two units of combine harvesters, a unit of a hauling truck, and four units of seed sorters. 

He said, “The provision of the farm machinery aims to improve farm productivity and increase the income of corn farmers in Surigao del Sur.

APCO Surigao del Sur confirmed the nine farmers' organizations were the proud recipients of the farm machineries namely:

1. Madrid Corn Growers Association received a four-wheel tractor worth P2,580,000.

2. Laycar Yellow Corn Production Organization also received a four-wheel tractor valued at P2,580,000.

3. Federation of Corn Growers Association was given a combine harvester worth P2,498,000.

4. San Miguel SDS Corn Cluster Association received another combine harvester valued at P2,498,000.

5. Western Visayas Agro Industrial Cooperative was provided a ten-wheel hauling truck worth P6,498,000.

6. Barobo Corn Cluster Association received a seed sorter valued at P499,888.

7. Magroyong Farmers Multipurpose Cooperative also received a seed sorter worth P499,888.

8. Madrid Corn Growers Association got a second seed sorter valued at P499,888.

9. Tago Agri-Based Agriculture Cooperative was given a seed sorter worth P499,888.

DA-APCO also distributed vegetable seeds to walk-in beneficiaries and guests. The ceremony highlighted the government's commitment to supporting farmers and enhancing agricultural productivity in the region. (NGPB, PIA-Surigao del Sur)
