Senior students join education tour in the Port of Surigao

SURIGAO CITY, Surigao del Norte -- To foster maritime awareness among the youth, around 30 senior high school students from Taft National High School embarked on an educational tour at the Port of Surigao on Friday, September 13, as part of the Maritime and Archipelagic Nation Awareness Month (MANA Mo) celebrations.

The eager students were greeted by port officials who guided them through an insightful tour of the facilities. The visit commenced with a comprehensive briefing on the Port of Surigao's Green Ports initiatives, highlighting the port's commitment to environmental sustainability in its operations.

Following the eco-friendly introduction, students attended lectures on basic port operations, gaining firsthand knowledge of the intricate workings of a bustling seaport. The sessions covered topics ranging from cargo handling and ship docking procedures to security measures and technological advancements in port management.

The Port Educational Tour initiative formed part of a broader effort of the Philippine Ports Authority to increase public awareness about the maritime industry and its significance to the country. Similar programs are being conducted in ports across the nation throughout the MANA Mo celebration.

The successful port visit did not only provide students with valuable insights into the maritime industry but also reinforced the importance of fostering a strong maritime culture in the Philippines.

As the young learners returned to their classrooms, they carried with them a newfound appreciation for the sea that surrounds and sustains our archipelagic country. (PPA-PMO Surigao/PIA-Surigao del Norte)
