Agusan Sur cooperatives level up preparation for Consumer Welfare Month

SAN FRANCISCO, Agusan del Sur -- The consumer organizations of San Francisco Consumer Organization (SFCO) and the Pagpakabana sa Katungod sa Konsumador Sa Agusan del Sur (PAKKADS) conducted a joint capability development activity and planning session for the upcoming 2024 Consumer Welfare Month, along with the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Agusan del Sur - Consumer Protection, held at Mabes Savory Place in Brgy. 1, San Francisco, this province.

The event gathered some 23 members from both organizations, including their respective presidents, Derby Barrera of SFCO and Maximo L. Tutor of PAKKADS.

Barrera did the acknowledgement of participants and warmly welcomed the participants. Tutor, on the other hand, provided an overview of the event and outlined the rationale for the activity, setting the tone for the day's discussions. 

Engr. Renato S. Corvera delivered an opening message on behalf of DTI-Agusan del Sur officer-in-charge (OIC)/ Provincial Dir. Marson Jan S. Dolendo, emphasizing the importance of consumer welfare and organizational development.

A key highlight of the event was the learning session on financial literacy, led by Rene P. Villagantol from Small Business Corporation (SB Corp.). He focused on managing financial income versus expenses, guiding participants through filling out breakdown income forms to assess their financial status.

Following the learning session, Corvera, who also served as the provincial coordinator for Consumer Welfare Month (CWM), initiated the discussions on the indicative calendar of events for this year’s observance, including the plans for a Consumer Fun Run and other event details were tackled, leading to summary agreements and commitments from the participants.

Also present were Trade-Industry Development Specialist (TIDS) Niel John Dapat, price monitoring officers Honeycris Burlat and ErleNovem Acibal and interns Leslie Panganoron and Baby Jane Noja of the Government Internship Program (GIPs). (DTI-Agusan del Sur/PIA-Agusan del Sur)
