Tagbina residents benefit from DSWD’s Oplan Pag-Abot

TAGBINA, Surigao del Sur (PIA) -- The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Field Office Caraga recently provided P80,000 as livelihood assistance to two residents of Tagbina, Surigao del Sur, under the program on Oplan Pag-Abot.

Prestine Garcia and Junjen Lara were selected as beneficiaries of the program, aimed at helping individuals and families who were previously living in street situations. The program focuses on improving their social status and providing them with opportunities to live safely and productively.

Garcia and Lara, who had previously lived on the streets of Metro Manila, were reintegrated to Tagbina, as their hometown.

On August 5, they received financial assistance to help them start new lives in their familiar environment. DSWD also collaborated with local partners to ensure ongoing support and to prevent them from returning to their previous vulnerable situations.

The Oplan Pag-Abot Program aims to offer opportunities to beneficiaries to return to their hometown and be productive citizens of the place, encouraging them to stay and overcome challenges locally rather than migrating to busier cities. The DSWD Field Office Caraga continues to work with the Central Office to assist other qualified individuals and families in the future. (Photo courtesy of DSWD-13/PIA-Surigao del Sur)
