In view of Tropical Storm Tino, which is currently inside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) and may affect the province of Agusan del Norte by tomorrow morning, the Agusan del Norte Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (PDRRMC)has recommended the suspension of classes in all levels across the entire province, effective tomorrow, November 3, 2025.

Nutrition workers in Caraga gather to strengthen nutrition programs

AGUSAN DEL SUR -- The National Nutrition Council (NNC) Caraga convened around 400 nutrition implementers, including nutrition action officers, district/city/ and municipal nutrition program coordinators, and barangay nutrition scholars, for its first joint regional conference on August 15-16 at CN Inland Resort in Rosario, Agusan del Sur. 

Participants came from the provinces of Dinagat Islands, Surigao del Norte, Agusan del Norte, Surigao del Sur, and Agusan del Sur. 

Agusan del Sur Governor Santiago Cane Jr. extended his message of gratitude to the participants through Executive Assistant Michael Leo Torralba. The governor expressed in his letter that their presence at the conference was a testament to their commitment to enhancing nutrition program implementation. 

“By continuously working together, we can make significant strides towards improving the nutritional status and overall health of our communities. Together we can create a healthier and more nourished Caraga region,” the governor added. 

Dr. Reyveen John Geli, nutrition officer of Tandag City, shared his journey as the National Outstanding City Nutrition Officer in CY 2022. He highlighted their best practices in implementing various programs and activities in the fight against the triple burden of malnutrition. He also urged the nutrition action officers to strengthen their advocacy for nutrition programs.

NNC Caraga Regional Nutrition Program Coordinator, Dr. NiƱo Archie Labordo, expressed his appreciation for the nutrition workers, recognizing their commitment as key players in building a healthy future for Caraga and the entire country. 

“We appreciate the efforts that you are doing, particularly for our children, for our pregnant women, and for our vulnerable groups. Our Philippine Plan of Action for Nutrition (PPAN) 2023-2028 does not only focus on children but across life stages, including the elderly,” Dr. Labordo added. 

The nutrition workers also participated in a mental health awareness discussion led by guidance counselor Rogelio May-as Guma of the Department of Health (DOH) - Drug Abuse Treatment and Rehabilitation Center. 

The discussion focused on stress management. United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) Nutritionist-Consultant Gabriel Tubigon presented on the role of information management in effective, evidence-based documentation. 

The joint regional conference in Caraga aims to empower the nutrition workers to take a proactive role in ensuring the success of PPAN 2023-2028 within their respective localities. The ultimate goal is to contribute to a healthier future for all Filipinos. (PPIO-Agusan del Sur/PIA-Agusan del Sur)
