Surigao Sur’s Bagong Pilipinas Serbisyo Fair goes online through DICT Caraga

BUTUAN CITY -- The Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) Caraga has once again demonstrated its commitment to fostering digital inclusion and enhancing public services through its Free Public Internet Access Program.

On June 21-22, during the highly anticipated Bagong Pilipinas Serbisyo Fair (BPSF) in Bislig City, the DICT in partnership with Globe Telecom Inc. provided seamless internet connectivity, across multiple key locations, including De La Salle John Bosco College, Andres Soriano College, and Barangay Mangagoy gymnasium.

The free Wi-Fi (wireless fidelity) team of DICT Caraga worked tirelessly to ensure uninterrupted internet access, significantly easing government transactions for both public servants and citizens reaching up to 5,575 logged Clients. This initiative underscored the department's dedication to enhancing the efficiency and convenience of public services, making a notable impact on the fair's success.

Highlighting the fair's accomplishments, the DICT also celebrated the ceremonial turnover of the Wireless Internet Services Provision via Satellite (WISPS) Project Strategy. Seven local government units namely, Cantilan, Carmen, Lanuza, Marihatag, Hinatuan, Bislig, and Lingig were awarded for their participation in this transformative project.  Thanks to the WISPS initiative, 28 free Wi-Fi hotspots were installed across these municipalities, providing residents with vital access to the digital world.

In addition to providing free internet access, the DICT leveraged the BPSF platform to promote cybersecurity and digital literacy. A cybersecurity awareness drive was conducted, targeting students to educate them on safe online practices. Meanwhile, LGUs in Surigao del Sur received valuable training on the eGOV PH app, empowering them to better serve their communities through digital governance.

The Bagong Pilipinas Serbisyo Fair in Bislig City stood as a testament to the DICT Caraga’s relentless pursuit of digital empowerment and public service enhancement. By bridging connectivity gaps and fostering cybersecurity awareness, the DICT continued to pave the way for a more connected and digitally literate Philippines. (DICT-Caraga/PIA-Caraga)
