Port of Surigao employees participate in mandatory drug testing
SURIGAO CITY, Surigao del Norte (PIA) -- In line with the Philippine government's campaign for a drug-free workplace, the Port Management Office (PMO) of Surigao conducted mandatory drug testing for all its personnel on June 18.
The drug tests were held in accordance with Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) Memorandum Circular No. 04-2016, also known as the Institutionalization of a “Drug-Free Workplace Policy” in the PPA.
The mandatory screening was carried out at the PMO Administrative Building in Surigao City and involved officials, staff, and contract of service (CoS) personnel from the base port of Surigao as well as its terminal management offices (TMOs).
Prior to the testing, operatives from the Port Police Department led by SPP1 Julie B. Lucero, discussed the salient points outlined in PPA Memorandum Circular 04-2016. Additionally, Winefredo D. Alagabia Jr., provincial officer of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) in Surigao del Norte, provided an overview of the government's Drug-Free Workplace Policy as mandated by Republic Act No. 9165, or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.
The drug testing initiative is part of the broader national effort to maintain a drug-free work environment across various government agencies and offices. (PPA-PMO Surigao/PIA-Surigao del Norte)
