Surigao Sur receives patrol cars from PNP

By Nida Grace P. Barcena

TANDAG CITY, Surigao del Sur (PIA)  --  Ten patrol cars were turned over to the province of Surigao del Sur on March 23 in Tandag City.

The units were released by Surigao del Sur Police Provincial Office (PPO) under the leadership of Director Police Colonel Harry Domingo for distribution to the police municipal station in the province.

The said activity is in line with President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., administration's commitment to extend full support to the Philippine National Police.

This formed part of PNP's modernization, revitalization, and capacity enhancement by improving its services to the public through the protection of lives and properties; and maintaining peace and order, among other necessary steps to ensure public safety.

Domingo shared, “The distribution of the police mobile assets is part of the PNP modernization, and capability enhancement program, which will support the troops' movement or deployment and other related operations such as civil assistance, search and rescue, internal security operations, including police patrol and visibility in the community.”

During the ceremonial turnover, Gov. Alexander T. Pimentel, as guest of honor and speaker, highlighted the provincial government’s efforts saying, “We have extended support to the PNP’s operations against illegal drugs, rebellion, and other unlawful acts that hindered the peace and order in

the province.”

Gov. Pimentel also urged the local chief executives who were present during the turnover ceremony to support the PNP, especially when there are operations in which authorities needed to exercise the police power to make arrests, search and seizure, detain an arrested person for a period not beyond what is prescribed by law, investigate and prevent crimes, bring offenders to justice and assist in their prosecution, and other duties of the PNP to maintain peace and order in the community.

He emphasized to the LCEs that the confidential and intelligence funds given to the local government units are intended for intelligence-related expenses for information gathering activities of the uniformed personnel like the PNP and Philippine Army which are relevant to peace and order, and national security.

"That reward you have given to the informants or witnesses of the crime in your locality is taken from confidential and intelligence,” the governor noted.

Meanwhile, the said patrol cars were received by the chiefs of the municipal police stations (MPS) from the following towns namely, Bayabas,  Carrascal, Cortes, Hinatuan, Lianga, Lingig, Madrid, San Agustin, San Miguel, and Tago.

The modernization program of PNP includes organizational and human resource development, infrastructure and facilities upgrading, and equipment acquisition and technology development. (NGPB/PIA-Surigao del Sur)
