NFA sustains price monitoring on rice
TANDAG CITY, Surigao del Sur -- The Market Price Monitoring Team of the
National Food Authority (NFA) Surigao branch, under the supervision of branch
manager Dennis Hibaya, visited the Tandag City public market to monitor the
prices of commercial rice.
Based on the report, the team visited nine rice outlets in the said market, and
they displayed the prices of well-milled rice (WMR) from P45 to P54, with
prevailing price at P48 per kilo. On the other hand, there was no display of
regular milled rice (RMR) in all outlets, as stocks run out since it was the
most affordable rice variety, per October 5 monitoring.
The premium rice ranged from P55 to P58, with prevailing price of P57 per
kilo.
Most local retailers projected that the prices may go down soon, since the harvest for this season has already picked up its pace.
Meanwhile, the NFA would like to inform the consuming public that their office has no direct intervention on the prices of commercial rice, including the regulation and stabilization, as these functions are no longer part of their current mandate pursuant to Republic Act No. 11203 or the Rice Liberalization Law.
