Butuan improves on peace and order, awards 15 performing barangays
BUTUAN CITY -- In celebration of the 32nd Local Government Day with the theme, “Empowerment, People’s Participation, and Efficiency in Program Service Delivery,” the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) – Butuan City, in partnership with the local government unit of Butuan City, and the City Peace and Order Council (CPOC), celebrated the exemplary contributions of the barangays in sustaining the peace and order of the city, during the 2023 Conferment of Awards on Barangay Peace and Order Committee (BPOC) on October 10, 2023, at The Pavillion, Watergate Hotel, this city.
For the 2023 BPOC functionality assessment, city director Charissa T. Guerta, highlighted the significant improvement of the BPOC functionality of the city with 31 barangays that got a rating of 85 and above, or high functionality.
Led by DILG - Caraga regional director Maria Loisella Lucino, together with Dir. Guerta, Ehrnest John Sanchez, Sangguniang Panglungsod (SP) member on Committee on Public Order and Safety who represented acting city mayor, Atty. Lawrence Lemuel Fortun, and the BPOC evaluation task force conferred the awards to the top 15 barangays of Butuan City that demonstrated outstanding performance in fulfilling their mandates, to wit:

Dir. Lucino expressed her appreciation to the barangays for their unwavering commitment and encouraged them to sustain their excellent performance and to do it even better next time to inspire other barangays. “Let’s act together. Let’s dream for a lasting peace and together we will achieve it if we work hand in hand,” she enjoined them.
Atty. Sanchez also conveyed his appreciation for the diligent work of the barangays and their dedication to ensuring that Butuan City remains a safe and secure place to live, work and visit. “You have proven that peace is attainable, not just a distant goal but as a daily reality within our communities. Let us strive for a barangay level of peace that not only serves as a source of security but also as an example for the world to follow,” he stated.
Moreover, assistant regional director Donald Seronay spearheaded the awarding of P15,000 financial assistance to each of the four former rebels under the Enhanced Comprehensive Local Integration Program (ECLIP). This program under the DILG is designed to provide a comprehensive approach for the reintegration of the FRs into mainstream society by offering socio-economic, psychosocial, and other support services.
The BPOC awards served as a platform to recognize the restless efforts and the unwavering commitment of the barangays in the promotion of peace and order and ensuring public safety in the community. The event was a testament to the collective efforts of the community and it encouraged initiatives and innovations in the maintenance of peace and order that helped build the foundation of a working and relevant barangay.
