Dapa town receives P1.8M livelihood grant

SURIGAO CITY, Surigao del Norte - In its continuous effort to assist the disadvantaged and displaced workers, the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) – Surigao del Norte released P1 million worth of livelihood grant and more than P800,000 worth of salaries under the DOLE- Integrated Livelihood and Emergency Employment Program (ILEEP) in Barangay Consolacion, Dapa, Surigao del Norte.

In her message, Dapa Mayor Elizabeth T. Matugas urged the beneficiaries to view the assistance as a catalyst for their own advancement.

"This livelihood opportunity is a blessing to you and your family. Take care of it. Enhance it. Dream for its success. Do it for your family. Do it for Dapa," Mayor Matugas said.

Meanwhile, DOLE - Surigao del Norte Provincial Director May Velonta challenged the beneficiaries to explore wider avenues for livelihood activities.

Dir. Velonta said, “While the Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantaged/Displaced Workers (TUPAD) program merely provided temporary employment, the livelihood program of DOLE is designed to nurture and sustain long-term economic engagement.

"May you see yourselves initiating your own pangkabuhayan to aid in elevating your economic status. Remember that grassroots initiatives have the power to help the entire community," Velonta added.

The members of the Fishermen Cooperative of Consolacion received fish feed, fingerlings, and other inputs and materials for their bangus production project, and 186 beneficiaries received P5,250 worth of salaries for the 15-day work they rendered.

The DOLE - Surigao del Norte remains steadfast in delivering programs of the department to address economic disparities and achieve a promising and inclusive future for the region. (BLMJ, LEO/DOLE-SDN/PIA-Surigao del Norte)
