Harvest festival shows efficacy of mechanical rice transplanters
CANTILAN, Surigao del Sur -- The season-long Rice Competitiveness Enhancement
Fund (RCEF) demo dubbed as “Makinaryang Pantanim, Push na ‘yan sa
Palayan,” concluded with a harvest festival as spearheade by the Department of
Agriculture Philippine Center for Postharvest Development and Mechanization
(DA-PhilMech) held on September 18, 2023, in Barangay Palasao, Cantilan,
Surigao del Sur.
The activity was a shared and collaborative effort of the local government unit
of Cantilan and Palasao Agriculture Cooperative, as witnessed by more than 40
farmers from the different farmers’ cooperatives and associations (FCAs) in
Cantilan.
The said project demonstrated the operation and benefits of mechanical rice
transplanters among farmers in order to increase its adoption and use.
Provincial Agriculturist Marcos M. Quico, Municipal Agriculturist Ceasar Q.
Blanco, APCO SdS chief Alvin Asuncion and PhilMech Provincial Coordinator Engr.
Glecerio S. Cabiad Jr., were in attendance during the activity.
