(PAGASA 24-HOUR PUBLIC WEATHER FORECAST as of Monday, 14 July 2025) The Southwest Monsoon (Habagat) continues to affect Mindanao. FORECAST: The Zamboanga Peninsula will experience cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms due to the Southwest Monsoon. These conditions may lead to possible flash floods or landslides, especially during moderate to occasionally heavy rainfall. The rest of Mindanao will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms also influenced by the Southwest Monsoon. Winds will be light to moderate from the southwest, with slight to moderate seas (wave height between 0.6 to 2.1 meters).

Harvest festival shows efficacy of mechanical rice transplanters 

CANTILAN, Surigao del Sur -- The season-long Rice Competitiveness Enhancement Fund (RCEF) demo dubbed  as “Makinaryang Pantanim, Push na ‘yan sa Palayan,” concluded with a harvest festival as spearheade by the Department of Agriculture Philippine Center for Postharvest Development and Mechanization (DA-PhilMech) held on September 18, 2023, in Barangay Palasao, Cantilan, Surigao del Sur.

The activity was a shared and collaborative effort of the local government unit of Cantilan and Palasao Agriculture Cooperative, as witnessed by more than 40 farmers from the different farmers’ cooperatives and associations (FCAs) in Cantilan. 

The said project demonstrated the operation and benefits of mechanical rice transplanters among farmers in order to increase its adoption and use.

Provincial Agriculturist Marcos M. Quico, Municipal Agriculturist Ceasar Q. Blanco, APCO SdS chief Alvin Asuncion and PhilMech Provincial Coordinator Engr. Glecerio S. Cabiad Jr., were in attendance during the activity. (LGU-Cantilan/NGPB PIA-Surigao del Sur)
