Overnight parking warrants penalties in Surigao City
SURIGAO CITY, Surigao del Norte --Surigao City recently updated its regulations outlined in Ordinance No. 49, Series of 1972, with a focus on overnight parking practices and associated penalties.
These changes apply to a wide range of parking and driving violations in the city, affecting local drivers, private vehicle owners, professional drivers, and family drivers.
The updates come ahead of important upcoming events like the Charter Day celebrations and Surigao City's Fiesta, during which the city is preparing various activities organized by the local government.
The main point of the update is to address the issue of leaving vehicles unattended overnight, particularly after midnight, which is now considered a violation. According to the revised ordinance's Section 3, any violation related to overnight parking will result in penalties.
The ordinance outlines a clear penalty structure in Section 4. A graduated fine system has been established, with a first-time offense attracting a fine of P500, and subsequent offenses incurring a higher fine of P1,000.
These fines should be paid to the City Treasurer's Office. If a vehicle is found violating the overnight parking ordinance, it may be impounded. If impoundment is not possible, the license plate may be removed. It's important to note that the removal of the license plate will only be done by authorized traffic enforcers or law enforcement officers.
The City Administrator, Atty. Cristina Parinas earnestly urges all residents and stakeholders to comply with these new regulations starting on August 16, 2023. Adhering to these rules will not only help prevent inadvertent violations but also contribute to maintaining a clean and pleasant urban environment for the entire city.
