DTI tightens compliance of vape shops in AgNor 

BUTUAN CITY -- In accordance with the enforcement of Republic Act No. 11900 or the Vaporized Nicotine and Non-Nicotine Products Regulation Act, the Department of Trade and Industry Agusan del Norte (DTI ADN) tightened its watch on vape shops within the province through random checking and monitoring of its physical validation and compliance to required business documents needed to legally operate a vape shop. 

Additionally, RA Nos. 11346 and 11467 and their Implementing Rules and Regulations (IRR) must be taken into consideration by all concerned establishments and local government units that the selling of vape shops within 100 meters from any point of the perimeter of schools, public playgrounds, youth hostels, recreational facilities with frequent visibility of minors is strictly prohibited. DTI and the Department of Health (DOH) now have authority over vape shops/goods and heated tobacco products (HTPs).

The DTI ADN physically visited and monitored eleven vape shops within the cities of Butuan and Cabadbaran. Most vape shops had been deemed compliant while only one vape shop in Butuan City was fully compliant, completing all the necessary documents needed as of June 9, 2023.  Several vape shops are still undergoing physical validation and inspection.

Consumers are also reminded to also look for the following signages in vape shops: (1) “The sale or distribution of Vaporized Nicotine and Non-Nicotine Products to or by persons below eighteen (18) years of age is illegal“ ; (2) Vape products are harmful and contain nicotine, which is a highly addictive substance.”

DTI seeks to strike a balance between the needs of businesses and enterprises, while also safeguarding the welfare of our youth and consumers from these addictive and harmful substances. (DTI Agusan del Norte/PIA Agusan del Norte)
