FORECAST: The Zamboanga Peninsula will experience cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms due to the Southwest Monsoon. These conditions may lead to possible flash floods or landslides, especially during moderate to occasionally heavy rainfall. The rest of Mindanao will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms also influenced by the Southwest Monsoon. Winds will be light to moderate from the southwest, with slight to moderate seas (wave height between 0.6 to 2.1 meters).

Students, faculty join DENR 2023 Forestrylympics in Bislig City

BISLIG CITY, Surigao del Sur -- In line with the monthlong celebration of the Philippine Environment Month which bares the theme, "No to waste: Advancing Circular Economy to #beatplasticpollution, " the Department of Environment and Natural Resources-Community ENRO Bislig headed by CENR officer Nathaniel E. Racho, in collaboration with the Forest and Wetland Research Development and Extension Center (FWRDEC) conducted the 2023 Forestrylympics in arboretum cum rest and recreation area in Sitio Sanyata, Barangay San Roque, Bislig City on June 20, 2023.

Accordingly, the students and teachers from Caraga State University (CSU) Main Campus, North Eastern Mindanao State University (NEMSU) Bislig San Miguel Campuses  joined the said event.

The 2023 Forestrylympics highlighted the different knowledge game such as the identification or name the leaf, wood and seed, and the environmental quiz bee.

The activity allowed the students to hone their knowledge, practice their specialization and maintain professional integrity and ethics in forestry.

As a result, Team Bagtikan emerged as the overall champion in leaf, wood, and seed identification, followed by Team White Lauan and Binuang. For the environmental quiz bee, Team White Lauan was declared as champion, followed by Team Binuang and Banaba.

The mentors always agree that the youth is the hope of our future. Today they might be our partners, while tomorrow they will go on and become leaders who will play vital roles in the protection and conservation of our natural resources for a greener and healthier environment.
