PMO Surigao joins  committee of DENR-EMB13, aids proposed shipyard project

SURIGAO CITY, Surigao del Norte -- The Port Management Office of Surigao took part in the Regional Environmental Impact Statement Review Committee (REISRC) as per Special Order No. R13.206.22 series of 2022 of the DENR-EMB RXIII. 

The PMO’s Environmental Specialist ably represented its Acting Port Manager, Froilan U Caturla, on March 2 to 3, 2023 during the site inspection and first review of the drafted EIS. 

The purpose of such activity is to review the Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) of the C & T Shipyard Incorporated for the proposed C & T Shipyard Project located in Brgy. Bon-ot, Carrascal, Surigao del Sur.

The said shipyard/proponent will undergo five substantive review process in accomplishing the approved EIS to include public scooping, technical scooping, site inspection and 1st Review, Public Hearing and the Final Review. 

The EIS is one of the requirements in acquiring the Environmental Compliance Certificate from DENR-EMB. The proposed facility will be developed and operated to cater to the needs of the shipping industry in Mindanao. 

The shipyard will repair, rehabilitate, convert and alter ships with size range of at most 3000DWT in the Phase 1 and 5000DWT in Phase II. C & T Shipyard Incorporated plans to declare itself as a Small Shipyard under the jurisdiction of MARINA, complying to the SBSR-SMALL category. (Frank Buhisan, PPA-PMO Surigao/PIA-Surigao del Norte)
