LGU-Sibagat, PhilFIDA establish abaca production centers
AGUSAN DEL SUR -- Recognizing the Municipality of Sibagat as the abaca capital of Agusan del Sur, the Philippine Fiber Industry Development Authority (PhilFIDA) headed by OIC-Regional Director Samuel M. Nacino, Jr., paid courtesy visit to the Mayor's Office of the LGU on February 22, and discussed the project regarding the establishment of production centers for abaca and other fibercops at Barangay Sinai of said municipality.
LGU-Sibagat and PhilFIDA
identified a group beneficiary which is the Sinai Free Farmers Agrarian Reform
Beneficiaries Cooperative, that is well-known for the production of ‘Sinamay’
and other handloom woven items made from abaca. Handloom weaving is the
traditional livelihood of the said beneficiary.
The project is part of
Senator Loren Legarda's initiative for the fiscal year 2023 which aims to
promote the growth and development of the fiber industry in the region.
