By Jennifer P. Gaitano

BUTUAN CITY – The members of the Regional Inter-Agency Committee for Senior Citizens (RIAC-SC) Caraga chaired by the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), along with other partner stakeholders in Butuan will take part in this year’s celebration of Elderly Filipino Week (EFW) through the conduct of “Walk for Life” on October 6, 2022, 5:00 a.m.

The walk will start from the Provincial Capitol of Agusan del Norte going to VCDU Convention in Barangay Villakananga, Butuan City. A Zumba exercise and short program will then follow.

At the same venue, participating sectors especially the senior citizens will also benefit from the free medical and dental check-up, and distribution of elderly hygiene kits.

DSWD-Caraga regional director Mari-flor Dollaga-Libang reiterated that the celebration of the EFW aims to recognize the significant contributions of older persons to nation-building, as well as raise awareness to issues and concerns faced by the sector.

“This year, we celebrate with the theme “Older Persons: Resilience in Nation-Building,” she said.

Proclamation No. 470 series of 2014 declares the first week of October of every year as the Linggo ng Katandaang Filipino (Elderly Filipino Week). (JPG/PIA-Caraga)
